Sadly, Libertine is the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to in the North End. They took away half the posted menu for Valentine’s Day (why? To get more money out of people?) and they were out of menu items for the items that were still supposedly available. I ordered the clams, half of which were no good and had to be spat out. The “crusty bread” for the broth was simultaneously raw, chewy, and burnt. My kid’s pasta wasn’t al dente, it was raw in the middle- I bit it in half and you could see that it was dry. The chicken cutlet was good but jeez, I can get a good cutlet from any old takeout place. If you charge these prices you should know what you’re doing, to which Libertine clearly does not.

We had a great experience at this cozy Italian spot in the North End, which offers a unique mix of Italian and Portuguese dishes. We ordered a variety of items to share and overall really enjoyed our meal.
The Portuguese sausage was a standout — packed with flavor and brought to the table flambéed, which was a fun touch. For mains, we tried the scallops, which were nicely cooked and fresh. The pasta with Bolognese was decent but fell a little flat compared to everything else — it could’ve used a bit more flavor. The gnocchi, on the other hand, was fantastic — light, pillowy, and absolutely delicious. We also had a shrimp dish that was another highlight, fresh and flavorful.
For dessert, we couldn’t resist the Portuguese custard tarts, and they were a hit — some at our table even said they were just as good as the ones you find in Portugal.
We also shared a bottle of wine, and while the final bill came to around $300 for four people (which felt a bit pricey), the overall experience was definitely worth it.
Would recommend it if you’re looking for a place that offers a little twist on traditional Italian dining with some Portuguese flair!

Went in for a Sunday night dinner in the North End. Love the Portuguese and Italian fusion where you can get the best of both worlds. The service was excellent and the food was very good! Will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Flavors were good but the proportions were disappointing, especially for the prices. My husband ordered chicken piccata and I don’t even think he got one full chicken cutlet. They cut it up into small pieces, I’m assuming to try to hide how small the protein serving was. The didn’t even bother to fill the plate with ziti either… Atmosphere was cozy.

Libertine has everything it needs to be a great place, but it needs some work. We walked in just to grab a couple drinks and a bite while we were in the area. We didn’t have a reservation but we were able to grab a seat at the bar.
The bar is big and comfortable, some tvs for games and bartenders are very friendly. The beer was good.
The espresso martini was not very good. We’ve tried a lot in the area and Boston in general, and this one was bottom of the barrel. It was also a lot darker than most we’ve had, so not sure what made it so bad.
The fried calamari was only that: fried calamari. It didn’t taste like it was seasoned and lacked flavor. Very disappointing.

Our family took my parents there for their 59 anniversary. We went to a drag show luncheon. The waitress was wonderful. Checked on us regularly and was very attentive. The food was delicious. I had the best pistachio martini ever! The show was so entertaining. My father enjoyed watching his grandchildren laugh so hard and having such a good time. The whole restaurant was participating and every single person in there was having so much fun. It is a show and luncheon you really have to do. Told all my friends about it when I got home. Can’t wait to do it again.

DO NOT SLEEP ON LIBERTINE! We were not planning to go into this place but just happened upon it by a lucky accident! The espresso Martini was BEYOND COMPARE. We’re from California and we would think that we have the best espresso martinis around but I would be DEAD WRONG! This was the smoothest, most espresso flavored chocolatey Martini that we’ve ever had. They also finished IT with a chocolate and espresso crushed rim. A taste of chocolate with every sip. JOHN is the outstanding backbone to this establishment and his recommendations are ON POINT.

Such a beautiful meal: excellent food, impeccable service, and a joy all around. Carlos was the best server I’ve had since Barcelona….honest and detailed in his recommendations and intuitive about what we needed all evening. Star of the show was the grilled octopus. We also highly recommend the lobster ravioli and the scallops. Everything was fresh and homemade. *chef’s kiss* Libertine is a gem in the North End. The recommendation by long time locals was well warranted.
