Old diner feel. The 2 bars next to Libbie’s are connected. Food was basic but decent. Friendly staff

Rare to find a true American diner anymore, great breakfast, great burger, great milkshakes, nice old booths, classic Americana.

I wasn’t sure how to rate this. I have been going here for 20+ years. Generally the food is great. On this past visit, I had ordered what I always order. #4 breakfast. When it arrived at the table, I asked the waitress, what is this? I ordered the #4 breakfast. She informed me that it was. But where are the home fries, i asked. She told me it doesnt come with home fries. On my plate I had 1 biscuit slit in half and layered with gravy and 2 sorry pieces of bacon. She offered to bring me some home fries. When she arrived at the table with a tiny plate of home fries, i thanked her as she set the bill upside down on the table. Generally I have always had to ask for a box since it normally comes with 2 biscuits, Home Fries and a piece of meat. When it came time to settle up, I noticed at the bottom of the check: Side of home fries $8! The breakfast is only $12.95. So unfortunately I believe that concludes my 20+ year relationship with Libbies.

When I got home, i looked up the menu and found a review for the same breakfast (Including photo with 2 biscuits, home fries, and piece of meat).

Got the clam chowder. It was tasteless and I could tell had been made several days prior, at least two. The potatoes were the wrong texture. Considering it’s available daily, I expect it to taste fresh. I ate about two bites and left the rest. I would not trust the seafood at all here.

Also got the chef salad, and the tomatoes were cold and mushy, also been in the fridge at least overnight. I couldn’t finish it, because something smelled vinegary, despite not having a vinegar-based dressing.

The furniture is old and worn, the walls are grimy, as was my table, and the service was equally worn.

I stopped in here while sightseeing around Portland and Milwaukie in 2017, and really dug the atmosphere. I was the only customer in the place, and was fairly hungry after walking around Portland, and wanted something that’d stick to my ribs. I was not disappointed. I ordered some chowder, the clams, and a cobbler and left stuffed. The food itself was good. If you are expecting a gourmet meal, go somewhere else. This is simple diner/bar fare and it did what it did well. I don’t know the deep lore of Milwaukie, but given the decor, I could tell Libbie’s had been around feeding the community for a while. That’s not a dig against the place. I hope it keeps it’s atmosphere as long as possible, but some people might be put off. If you walk in and check your expectations, you’ll be happy.

Me, my wife and a couple friends stopped in for a quick bite. We had never been here before. I have to say it was some of the worst food, and water, that I have ever had at a restaurant. The ice was moldy, none of us wanted to drink the water. The food wasn’t any better. My burger bun was soggy and old. My wife’s ice cream was freezer burnt. If I could give it less than one star I would have. Whoever is running this place, does not care.

Cozy atmosphere with good music and nice art, the server was super sweet and friendly and the food was even better than expected. Had the chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich, the cheese was excellent and the flavors really came through and the tater tots were literally perfectly cooked. Crispy outside and pillowy soft inside. Great place.

Let’s be honest. The only reason this place is still around and people are still going here is because it’s been around forever. That’s it. It’s a historical landmark by now. I got a waffle breakfast here. It was disappointing. It tasted like it was microwaved. Just because this is a diner that’s been around forever doesn’t mean the food is delicious. I know you’re a fixture of the community because you’re so old but that doesn’t mean you have to stop making an effort to make good food. There are SO MANY other places nearby that do a way better job. Time to step it up. Seriously, I feel like they’ve stopped caring. Every time I’ve walked by or have been in, I feel like I have to be over 60 just to be a patron or get good food here. Bertie Lou’s kicks this places butt and they’ve been in business for over 82 years. Do better. I also had to wait about 15 minutes and there was only one other person inside the entire building

Wasn’t really impressed with the overall experience here but it may just be me. We eat out a lot and not every place is great.
