When my family first found out about this restaurant, we fell in love! I especially fell in love with their authentic chocolate soufflé!! When calling today (10-16-2025) to confirm our reservation for this Saturday, we were informed that the restaurant is closed indefinitely. We were absolutely heartbroken! Not only is the food divine, but the staff is so kind and atmosphere is very classy. Les Nomades is the epitome of a fine dining experience. From our understanding, their closing was out of the control of the owner/management of Les Nomades. So grateful to have had the opportunity to dine in the past! It’s very unfortunate to hear about their sudden closing, especially 2 days prior to our party’s reservation. Wish we had known sooner so we could have had more time to make other reservations for our family’s birthday celebration.

Do you want classic French cuisine in Chicago? This place has been around forever and yet people forgets it exists. It harkens us back to the days of Charlie Trotter’s and Everest. Les Nomades is one of those great places that somehow flies under the radar even though we think it’s one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Even with its original chef having retired, the place has not missed a beat. From the moment we walked in the door until the moment we walked out, we felt like the most special people. Everyone should have the opportunity to try this special restaurant.

My wife and I visited Les Nomades for the first time this past Saturday evening and it was spectacular. This is an old school French restaurant from top to bottom. Excellent food, excellent wine list, impeccable service — attentive but not cloying — subdued light, white tablecloths, wood burning fireplace. The place exudes understated elegance you just won’t find anywhere else. Jacket required, it just fits the mood of this wonderful place, but they aren’t stuffy at all. A genuinely nice staff dedicated to making your visit a memorable one. To top it off, I inadvertently left behind my credit card and the staff mailed it back to me along with a card, hand-penned in calligraphy, thanking us for coming and wishing my wife and I a happy new year. Even something as mundane as forgetting your credit card affords an opportunity for style and grace at Les Nomades. This place is at the top of the list of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. If you’ve not been there by all means go. One of the most memorable dining experiences you can have.

At this spot, time stands still and so does your posture because you’re trying to behave like someone who knows what a fish fork is. This old-school French haven is prix fixe fancy with a capital F. Think whisper while you chew fancy. I got the soft-shell crab and scallop and lobster salad, which felt like it studied abroad in Provence, and the loup de mer (aka sea bass), which was basically a perfectly cooked poem.

What a culinary curtsy. Très special, très old, très worth it.

Les Nomades in Chicago provided an exceptional backdrop for an evening with the Chicago Dinner Club, featuring Daniel Drews, Nicole Ruiz, and myself. The event commenced with a delightful cocktail named JT, blending orange juice, Cointreau, Campari, and champagne—a refreshing start to our culinary journey.

The first course presented a duo of seared scallops and tempura shrimp, elegantly paired with sauce gribiche and a smooth Kabocha squash purée, enhanced by a lemongrass lobster sauce. The dish was a harmonious meld of textures and flavors.

Next, we savored a fricassee of escargots, where the earthiness of braised leek and celery root met the robustness of a red wine garlic sauce, crafting a bold yet refined taste profile.

The warmth of the lobster, served with greens and a tangy mango dressing, continued the seafood theme, the lobster sauce cordon adding a luxurious touch to the fresh, vibrant ingredients.

A sautéed Dover sole followed, lying atop a warm fingerling potato salad, the saffron sauce providing a subtle but distinct flavor that elevated the dish to new heights.

The Mediterranean Sea bass, simply sautéed, allowed the natural flavors of the fish to shine through, demonstrating the kitchen’s confidence in letting quality ingredients speak for themselves.

The braised Wagyu short-rib was a highlight, its richness perfectly counterbalanced by a creamy pommes purée and a classic red wine sauce, demonstrating the chef’s deft hand at traditional comforts.

Roasted Peking duck breast came next, served with lentils and a sauce Rouennaise, the mandarin glaze adding a sweet citrus note that cut through the richness of the duck beautifully.

To conclude, a mocha soufflé with chocolate sauce, and Crème brûlée served alongside my signature cappuccino, a decadent ending to a memorable meal.

The night at Les Nomades stood out not just for its extraordinary food but also for its flawless service, making it a splendid evening of gastronomy and camaraderie.

Amazing food. Their first course section is always incredible. I almost wish I could just eat those for the entire meal. Beautiful dishes. Great flavors. Excellent service. I’ve never had a bad experience there. I never understood the hype about souffles, until theirs. Had the grand Marnier souffle. It was incredible. Light, fluffy, a delicate cloud of grand Marnier loveliness. Also, if you like foie gras (how could you not), get whatever dish they create around it. It is always incredible. The current item, in banana water of all things, is incredible. Crispy! and sweet. Unique goodness.
Love, love, love this place.

Great service! Lovely ambiance! Hazelnut Soufflé is fantastic. Lobster salad is wonderful.

But the sauce for duck was average… not impressed by it. It was kind of a unbalanced asian fusion sauce. Kind of disappointed by our main entree

Let’s start by the facts !
First is this house in between two sky scrapers about less the a ft apart , have you seen the movie up! ? Well kinda like that I think that’s pretty cool.

The atmosphere is very cozy and elegant , I almost felt like a general walking inside a military building well organized and respectful.

We were taken to the upstairs room a bit mor private and we went because it was my wife’s birthday ,
The menu is simple is a 4-5 course menu and you get to pick out of 2-3 choices for each section .
Appetizer
Soup or salad
Main entree
Desert

I would suggest to order the oysters or the foie gras!
Absolutely amazing !
The Foie Gras is a sweeter dish. With a good balance of sweet , sour an salty !

Next I would get the the mushroom soup if fenomenal ! Almost feels like a crea of mushroom but with out any cream the texture is soft and snappy!

Then I suggest get the lamb ! Omg it actually brought a tear or two while eating it was expertly cooked I got mine medium rare and was on point ! Also the fish comes with a red wine sauce which out of this world ! Make sure you order enough bread to help you clean the plate out of that sauce !

Also to my knowledge the chef is well known for his sauces so I highly recommend any dish with a sauce.

Overall it was a great experience very private and cozy ! Excellent for a romantic getaway or even just for a relaxed night.
The food is amazing and very unique . I have eaten in many places in France including Eiffel Tower tour 54 restaurants and this is by far one of the best French restaurants I have attended .

100% recommended well worth every dollar

We went to celebrate my friend birthday 2022 October.
The location easy to find, this charming restaurant it is between 2 skyscrapers, very autentic.
When you step inside, your timezone going back like the beginning of XXI century. You are greeted at the entrance, coats taking care , sitted like in old times, feeling like a queen.
They will explain the meniu, (gourmet food) you can choose between 3 or 5 courses.
Wine list endless.
We choose oysters, pate, duck, halibut and 2 kinds of delicious desserts.
Yes food was exceptional,
(The fish wasn’t my favorite, it did smelled fish, but the sauce what was coming with the fish, very good),service yes, like should be everywhere.
One note for you guy’s:
It’s not cheap, so be prepared $$$$.
If you like gourmet food and French ambience and treated like a queen and you have money to spent, then this is your place…
Enyoj it!

Put environment and service aside, the taste of food itself is really not that outstanding. Well, of course it is good, but not what I expected for a fine dining restaurant like this. Especially the lamb main course—it is totally a disappointment.
But anyways, their foie gras is really really good, probably one of the best that I ever had in the US. Their dessert and starter are not bad as well.
Not to be offensive to anybody, but their customers are mainly elder people. So do expect that classical vibe (from both the diners and the deco).
Service is not bad. Descent.
Probably won’t come back again. The experience just doesn’t get me.
