I just tried this new Congolese place and I’m not even exaggerating when I say it felt euphoric. I genuinely forgot about space and time. The flavors were unreal, everything was seasoned perfectly, and you can taste the love in every bite. Everybody needs to experience this at least once.

The food was SO good! There were 5 of us and we all got something a little different and shared. I got the red fish and future and it was fantastic! The people were very kind and attentive as well. I’m glad we decided to try something different, we will definitely be back!

What an amazing addition to the food scene in CU! This is authentic African cuisine from the heart of the continent. I ordered the fufu and the kwanga, but the owner was concerned that I did not have anything to go with those items as they are traditionally accompaniments to different stews and curries. And even though she was pressed for time due to a catering event, she lovingly crafted a makeshift stew for me to go. This was one of the most amazing meals I’ve had in quite some time. The flavours and the spices were magical. I will definitely be coming back to try everything on the menu. Well done ladies!!!

It was my first time experiencing authentic African cuisine, and I’m so glad that I tried it from Le Gourmets Cuisine! I got the spicy pork, fried rice, fried potatoes, beef stew, and fufu. I would definitely order these same dishes again and even try other new dishes. The portions were so big as well! I did a takeout, but I would like to try dining in next time because the service was so friendly! Thank you!

Love love love the food. Friendly service but you can tell services was a little slow in hustle or communication between each other so service seemed to also be the chef until another worker came in to serve? But good was on point. Got fufu and what ghanians would call kwanga (fermented type fufu? Hard to explain to English eaters. Goat egusi tasty (I would prefer my spicy but they had spices to add on the table) would love some chilli pastes for fried snapper my hubby got but maybe something they would offer in future. Cost was in proportion to the quality and labor of cooking.

Let me preface this review by saying it’s great that an authentic African restaurant has opened in Champaign, and more such new cuisines are a welcome improvement to the culinary richness of the area.
That said, my experience here was poor. The food is certainly an acquired taste. The egusi stew was unique and quite tasty on the whole. But the kwanga (fermented tapioca) was pungent and inedible for me, inducing a gag reflex. Be warned if you want to experiment like I did.
But that wouldn’t have been a problem alone. The service and ambience was quite poor. The service staff is very inexperienced. Wait times to be attended to were long (it almost feels like you’re intruding), and the waitress could not understand our questions or explain any of the dishes (poor English), when guidance while choosing dishes would have been welcome. For eg. They did not know what each dish contained (meat, veg, etc) or even how to describe what the dish was or tasted like, beyond its name. The internet was my friend to figure out what each dish was, but a human guide would’ve been nice. Food was also unreasonably pricey imo.
Overall, I’m glad I tried something new, but 2 stars because I would not return.
