We came here straight after work on a Thursday. There was no line so we were able to order straight away and our food was out in 10 minutes.

We had the chicken fried steak which was delicious! The gravy and fry on the steak were both seasoned really well and the steak had a nice crisp on it.

We had the German Cobbler and Banana Pudding tiramisu desserts. The cobbler was just too salty so it was a confusing eat, but the Banana pudding tiramisu was heavenly.

We also had the cornbread app and it was super good; it came with a nice bacon butter that complemented it well.

The atmosphere is nice and open, pretty no frills but I appreciate that food is the focus.

I was in town visiting a friend, and someone suggested we try Leroy and Lewis Barbeque. I expected a local hole-in-the-wall spot with good BBQ. Then I pulled up and saw the newer, fancy signage and realized this place has a Michelin Star. Wow. I never thought brisket, barbacoa, and BBQ could reach that level.

The service was great the whole time. Yes, it is pricey at about $46 per pound for brisket, but the food and the experience felt worth it. Even after eating brisket, I could not pass up the daily special: a $10 brisket burger to go. It was the best $10 hamburger I have ever had.

Our friend said the line is usually out the door on weekends. We went on a Monday, so there was no big wait, but the parking lot was still full. The ordering is simple: you pick what you want, how much you want, then order by the pound and add sides. I am sharing a few photos and a video to help show the vibe, the friendliness, and what to expect. It is also awesome that they started as a food truck in 2017 and grew into a Michelin Star restaurant.

Finally made it down to Leroy and Lewis bbq with my partner in food crime – my husband!
Note to all: if you go on Saturday, it gets VERY crowded!! The bad news – it was a 2 hr wait on the line for the traditional barbecue options. The good news – we could go to the anytime menu area (either bar, or ordering area midway through the restaurant. We chose the anytime because we were hungry!
We ordered the onion rings, Hog Fat Cornbread, L&L burger (1/2lb brisket), and banana pudding tiramisu (for a to-go dessert).
Onion rings were good, light buttermilk batter, with an alabama white sauce (horseradish type of heat). They do tend to fall apart – so keep a napkin handy!
Hubs loved the cornbread – very crumbly, but moist, with a sprinkle of sea salt on top. It’s made from BSM hopi blue cornmeal – so it’s BLUE!
Burgers were very tasty and not packed – so less dense. I prefer mine cooked more than rare, but Jake was helping us out in many ways (so good about my food restrictions also!) – and got me a new burger cooked more toward the medium side! It had sautéed onions on top – very tasty! Hubs loved the burger also!

I have to mention Jake again – SUCH a nice guy and so helpful! We mentioned that we had really wanted to try the beef cheeks, but no way were we waiting on the line (NOTE: do get there when they open if going on a weekend!). He actually brought us three pieces to try!!! And it was so moist, smoky, tender, and well seasoned! We were just amazed at how helpful the staff are!
The dessert? Jeff gave it two thumbs up! The pudding definitely had the banana punch – and an extra flavor..either vanilla or banana extract.

Overall – great Q and four thumbs up!!

It is definitely Michelin star worthy. The staff was amazing, the food was delicious, and the place was neat and clean. We arrived at 10, for an 11 am open, and were first in line!!!! With getting there early! The line moved quickly, for those waiting. Unique sides that were great! Didn’t have dessert, we were foo full!

This was the best BBQ I’ve ever had. The beef cheeks were my favorite but I truly didn’t have a bad bite. My favorite side was the carrots, which are offered as a main for folks who don’t eat meat. It was all incredible. All members of the staff were helpful, polite and quite friendly. I didn’t have my kids with me but appreciated that they had toys available for kids as well. Would give 100 stars if I could!

Friday at 4:45 pm was an awesome time to arrive. A reasonable selection of meats was still available and the line was about 10 minutes. Excellent service for getting dessert later. High quality meats and unusual sides. The tritip was superb. I didn’t love the chicken, but I guess it is tough to make chicken memorable. The sausage was great. My favorite was Terry Black’s, but I think this place edges it out.

The moment we walked in & got in line, we were greeted by a friendly employee who handed us menus & told us what items were still available at that time.
We found out that Mondays is Happy Hour ALL day. $2 off most drinks & Anytime Eats(Appetizers).
Our 3 happy hour drinks were delicious.
We had the Kimchi side, onion rings & beef fat potato chips. Onion rings & bfpc were outstanding. Kimchi as a little too spicy for me.
The L&L Burger was on special for $10 on Mondays. Wow! Super tasty & juicy.
The Smoked Italian beef sandwich was a bit too spicy for even the person who ordered it.
The Texas a cheesesteak was extra tasty.
Condiments were on point, especially the picked onions, pickles, & jalapeños.
We ended our meals by sharing a brown butter mesquite chocolate chip cookie, which was superb.
Needless to say, now we know why they’ve earned the Michel star for 2024.

Leroy and Lewis is hands down some of the best BBQ in Austin. Everything is cooked to perfection, packed with flavor, and you can tell they truly care about what they’re putting on the plate. The brisket is insanely tender and smoky, the beef cheeks are unreal, and the sides are just as impressive as the meats — not an afterthought like at a lot of BBQ spots.
The menu is creative while still respecting Texas BBQ tradition, and it all works. The vibe is relaxed and welcoming, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole experience just feels very Austin.
This is the kind of place you crave days later. If you’re a BBQ fan or visiting Austin, Leroy and Lewis is an absolute must. Worth the wait, worth the hype, worth every bite.

A Michelin star and ranking of #2 on Texas Monthly forced my expectations to be sky-high for Leroy and Lewis. I enjoyed my experience, but I do think in some areas, L&L tries a little too hard to be different and set apart from the rest. My wife and I tried the flat iron, whole hog, and the jalapeño cheddar sausage. We also tried chori-papas, frito pie, pork hash, and tallow potato chips as our sides. We finished the meal with banana tiramisu. It was fun to try so many new things you typically don’t get with modern Texas BBQ, but I felt myself missing some of the classic flavors, like a mac & cheese or potato salad. Their bread is Martin’s brand, rather than the heavenly homemade pillows at Goldee’s. I tasted notes of chilis powder/cumin in many of the dishes, which I love but wasn’t in the mood for as I was craving central Texas BBQ. I admire L&L’s boldness to be different, but I also think there’s beauty in doing the normal/simple things and elevating them to new heights. Goldee’s is still #1 in my book, having been to more joints than I’d like to admit. But L&L definitely deserves a spot in the top 50, they’re putting in good work and anyone could have a good time visiting. (Also, there were about 30-40 in front of us when we got in line and it still took 1.5 hours to order. My wife got hangry so I get inclined to mention that).

I really wanted to love this place, but the experience just didn’t line up with the hype.

The brisket was fine, but nothing special. The bark was a little heavy, it wasn’t as moist as I’d hoped, and it was cold. Same story with the tri-tip. All of the hot food we ordered came out basically room temperature.

The Frito Pie and Chori-Papas were plated about 20 minutes before we actually got our food. By the time we received them, they had clearly been sitting. The Chori-Papas were decent, but the Frito Pie honestly isn’t worthy of being on the menu. It’s a Frito Pie. You’ve had one, you’ve had them all.

The kale/slaw/salad was mostly cheese. Not bad, just unbalanced.

Now for the standout: the banana pudding tiramisu. That was excellent. Creative twist, great flavor, easily the best thing we had.

The bigger issue was the overall experience. Parking is a mess. The line was long just to get to the point of ordering, and the process felt inefficient and chaotic. It looked like only a few employees were actually working while others seemed unsure of what to do, sometimes getting in the way of the ones who were hustling.

We showed up at 3:00 on a Friday afternoon, not peak dinner rush, and still waited much longer than expected for food that came out cold. It just didn’t feel well organized.

Great dessert. Everything else needs some tightening up.
