Leon’s is an all-day Italian restaurant from Natalie Johnson and Nick Anderer, the husband-and-wife duo behind Anton’s in the West Village. Named for Natalie’s great-grandfather, Leon Hakim, the restaurant is inspired by her family’s heritage and the couple’s travels together across the Mediterranean. Leon’s is a convivial gathering place open from early morning until late in the evening (serving continuously from breakfast through dinner). The culinary menu spotlights Anderer’s deep passion for Italian cuisine, as well as his thoughtful interpretations of treasured Hakim family recipes and culinary traditions passed down by way of Egypt and France.

Mushroom carpaccio was good and creative. We also got the large fritto misto and it was very normal. The batter wasn’t that crispy tbh. The shrimp in there was tender though.
Lemon tagliolini was fresh pasta but I didn’t really like the cheese that was in it, it just didn’t go well with the sea beans.
Linguini alle vongole was very bland, boxed pasta (I would expect boxed pasta for this dish though), just didn’t have much flavor which was crazy bc usually clams are flavorful.
The sauce on the steak frites was good and fries were crispy.
The dessert looks better than it is. I like the affogato. The flan was nice and not too heavy. The lemon merengue was not good and had a weird aftertaste. Also the sugar work was wrong. You can tell from the brûlée that it’s grainy. The weird aftertaste is because the egg didn’t bond correctly w the sugar. So you’re just tasting egg white. Disappointing.
Also they could’ve done more with the sides. We asked the waitress for recs for the sides and she said the best were the potatoes and the beans and they were not it lol. Beans had a sauce on it that didn’t really add much, and it’s a bit indescribable. I didn’t really know what they were going for with those beans. The potatoes were good they were just boiled lemon potatoes with capers.
Otherwise, good service and ambiance. Food was just pedestrian.
We were running late for our reservation and the host was kind enough to call us to confirm if we were still going to make it which I really appreciated. Great experience over and definitely will be going back with friends.
We also ordered the truffle toast special, which was particularly disappointing. It lacked any discernible truffle flavor and tasted as though it had never actually come into contact with truffle at all.
The pacing of the meal was also off. We ordered by course, but everything except for the salads – pastas, chicken, and steak – was delivered at the same time, rather than the pastas coming out as a proper middle course. It made the meal feel rushed and disorganized.
Overall, it’s a place I’d return to for a drink and the ambiance, but not for a full dinner.
Dulcis in fundo: a superlative and reasonable
wine program, designed for everyone to enjoy, not just those who are in the wine trade. If you haven’t gone yet, do yourselves a favour and visit this brilliant restaurant, and restore yourselves from the stress of Manhattan.
PS: EXTRA respect for Leon’s as it is one of the very few establishments in NYC that never succumbed to the murky influencer / content creator wagon which seems the bleak norm these days. This is the way it should be.
The food was delicious. We shared the citrus salad, marinated olives, rapini melt, lemon potatoes, skate and pappardelle & duck raggu. A trio of gelato for dessert.
The restaurant is beautiful – high ceilings – and while sophisticated, the ambiance is warm and cozy.
Special thank you to our server Alex who was fantastic along with the rest of the wait staff and the gentleman who kept refilling our water glasses which I also love. Another gentleman seated us (whose name I forget but he was from NJ) so special shout out to him as well.
I love discovering new restaurants in NYC. We’ll definitely be back. I highly recommend Leon’s!
Ambiance is perfect. Staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Do not sleep on the olive oil and bread, chefs kiss. They rotate the olive oil weekly. Eggplant and tuna crudo absolute must orders. Tried several pastas – the crab, ravioli caprese & the almond pasta all great. The chicken dish is to die. Love that they serve the wine in carafes & also love that the owner walks around in his apron chatting with the customers. I really love it here 100/10, can’t wait to come in to try their breakfast as well! *they were also accommodating when I came with my 9m old so that is a ++++++ in my book
