I always stop here on my way thru town! They have the absolute best chicken dumpling soup I have had in my travels! It is fantastic no matter what time of year!

My food burger was terrible. The burger, bacon, and cheese were scorched all around the outside. I broke off a bunch of the black and tried eating it but it was too burnt for me. The cook should never have sent it out to be served to a customer. It was disgusting and I couldn’t get the taste out of my mouth. I like burnt brats and hot dogs, but not scorched like this burger was. My husband’s burger was good, the fries were good, and the chicken dumpling soup my husband had was good too. It was just my burger that was bad. Loved our waitress. She apologized and didn’t charge me for my meal.

I visited on a busy Sunday morning, the place was full. Even though their was plenty of wait staff everybody seemed unusually overwhelmed. I noticed most of the tension was between the staff and one person. Didn’t take long to figure out it was the owner. I manage a team and it took me 10 minutes to figure out this owner clearly doesn’t know how to treat her people well. The whole experience was very distracting. I honestly had to console our waitress as she was holding back tears. I’ve never written a review of a restaurant that didn’t spend the majority of the time critiquing the food but here we are. By the way the food was great. I don’t know if I should tell you to pass on this place or go there to support the wait staff, you decide.

Went with a large group of adults and some kids, felt awkward being put directly in the middle of the restraunt even though there were tons of tables open in the back. People at the restraunt (both staff and guests) were upset because we were taking up the walkway and they were struggling to walk through, but we did not choose to sit here. Only one staff member had a good attitude but unfortunately she wasn’t the one helping us. We got some attitude for asking for a kids menu, even though we had 3 kids. I understand it’s a busy time of year but there is no need to get frustrated when we aren’t ready to order. Almost all food came cold, and someone actually choked on a hair baked into their dumpling. Heard them complaining through the restroom before leaving that we didn’t tip enough and we were very needy. We also got charged for more items than we ordered but just wanted to get out with our kids so we chose not to fight it. We tip based off service not because we are obligated. Mentioned something to some other businesses and they said they have also heard other family’s having issues. Hopefully this is just an issue with being short staffed or something, but we will most likely not be coming again.

We got there about 4 pm today, Friday, October 3rd. There were 3 other tables and only 1 waitress at the time. The waitress took our order right away. My husband ordered a bowl of soup. After a while, she brought our food but never brought his soup. The food was good, although the fish portions were smaller than we anticipated. Our server never came back to check in us and see how things were going, no drink refills, no ketchup. When she came back to clear plates, she did she was going to ask how the food was, but we were done already. This particular server kept complaining, loud enough for all customers to hear, that she’s “sick of these Fridays! We should strike!!” She left the check, and my husband looked at it while she was at the table still and mentioned that he had never gotten his soup. She said, “Oh, sorry, do you want that to go?” He said no, thank you. She brought the revised bill back and we went up to pay. He used a debit card and when the prompt came up for tip, he pushed no tip but it didn’t go through so the same server pushed tip for him. It automatically gave her a $5 tip. That’s incredibly bold of the server who provided poor, poor service. We come up every year for Cranberryfest and frequent Leif’s often during our few days visit. We were going to go tomorrow for breakfast but have decided to go elsewhere.

Mexican breakfast burrito is great. Lots of chorizo. Tortilla wrap is paper thin and tasty, not cardboard like some places. Highly recommend. By the way there is no wait if you get here early. But in high season if you show up at peak times yes there will be a way to because the food is good.
Don’t miss desserts, Apple pie and chocolate cake are excellent. Prices are great too.

We stop here every year while vacationing in the northwoods.
For breakfast we had a RAILROAD STREET OMELET, and eggs over easy with hash browns and wheat toast. Both were delicious, and service was great. Still a nice place to eat!
