A Cornish pasty is a hand-held meat-and-vegetable pie developed as a lunch for workers in the ancient English tin mining region of Cornwall. A pasty is a “must try” when visiting Michigan’s Upper Peninsula area and Lehto’s is one of the most popular places to enjoy one.

My wife and I ended up trying both the Beef (a blend of beef, potato’s, onions, and rutabaga) and the Chicken (chicken, potato, onion and carrot) with a side of gravy. Both outer crusts were flaky and light while the fillings were hearty, savory , peppery, and aromatic. Letho’s Pasties delivered a very satisfying dining experience.

Great meat pocket. Kind of reminded me of a Runza with a pie crust, instead of bread. Regardless, it’s good. Make sure to get the gravy as well. Outdoor seating available or take it to the beach.

We got one of each of the flavors, beef, checked and vegetable. Each one has it’s advantages. The beef was hearty and the equivalent to a hamburger on how easy it is eaten. The chicken was like eating a chicken pot pie. And the veggie was the one with the most savory of flavors.

First time having a pastie and Lehto’s did not disappoint! Bobby was great with the recommendations, the beef was definitely the best one! The bread was crispy, the texture of the beef and potatoes together was perfectly smooth, and the gravy was delicious with each bite.

Friendly owner and great food! I came in right before hopping on the ferry and found the beef pasty a delicious and mess free breakfast to have on the way to Mackinac Island. The pasty reminded me of a samosa, with a flaky crusty exterior and a soft and savory filling; in other words, very tasty.

The clam chowder was actually pretty good but the pasty was just ok. I’m a pasty connoisseur… maybe you’ll have a better experience. Too much potato. Also didn’t fold the crust correctly- no braid. I will have to give them extra points though because they slice their potatoes the way I like em and they actually do rutabaga (supposedly) so they do it correctly.

I’ve had several pasties, I get one each time I go to the UP. This was the best I’ve had so far. The pastry was soft and flaky and the fillings were generous and flavored to perfection. The ultimate comfort food!

Was told by a few people around St Ignace who has the best pasties and this place was repeatedly suggested. Being off season the parking wasn’t bad. The business was very busy. Not much room to sit and eat on the inside. The pastie was delish. Buttery and great comfort food. It’s my new “must stop” place when going up north.

Overall, Lehto’s was a good experience. The woman who helped me was kind and friendly. The pasty isn’t as good as what I had in Sault Ste Marie, but it was still satisfying. I think that both of the pasties and the gravy could’ve used more salt, but they were still good, especially after a long drive. The pumpkin chocolate chip cookie was excellent. I should’ve saved half for later, but it was so good that I ate the entire thing.

We were in a couple of weeks ago and we loved the pasties. We had the beef and the chicken. The beef was our favorite (we wish they would have recommended the gravy). We also picked up a coleslaw. So good! Great service. We would eat here again.
