I recently had the privilege of photographing a wedding reception at the Legal Tender and I have to say this is one of the most incredible spaces I have ever worked in. The amount of character, vintage art and true western heritage is unmatched.
When you walk into the space you feel like you’re enter a time capsule. It made for an amazing place to host a wedding dinner, party, live band and dancing till the lights turned out. If you’re looking for a venue for your wedding or reception dinner (or both) I would highly recommend the Legal Tender Saloon & Eating House.
The staff was also very professional, kind and timely. The food was delicious and the ambiance and overall atmosphere is truly one of a kind.

The atmosphere is Excellent. It’s like stepping back in time and reminded me of a fancy Tombstone establishment. Excellent service from my first call, and throughout the evening. I asked for a specific table, I got the perfect table.* Reservations are very advised here, especially if a musician is playing on a Saturday evening. The food did not live up to my expectations but I did leave full and happy. The salads were quite good. I wish the bacon on the wedge salad was warm. Their goddess dressing is delicious. The goat cheese and beet salad was great, I loved the vinegrette. Main course was where things dipped a bit as the plates were a tad sparse. Our trout and NY strip were of a good a quality and taste. The steak was a bit undercooked. The mashed potatoes were watery but I loved the green chile on it. Asparagus was cooked perfectly. Desserts were very good. I would go back for the rhubarb crumble every day if I could. The key lime pie was tart and rich. Do not miss this restaurant and overall experience. I can’t wait to return. You can tell a lot of effort and love went into creating such a unique and special place. Parking is easy. If you like you can go earlier and check out the old train station across the street.

We were visiting friends in Santa Fe and they took us to Legal Tender for dinner. We loved the ambience with the railroad memorabilia and antiques. The bar is handsome.
We had the green chili Stew, green chili cheeseburger, Cesar salad and arugula salad. Everything was well prepared. Oh! We shared the onion rings which were crispy and warm. Service was attentive and friendly.
We look forward to visiting our friends again and will definitely return for dinner.

This place was welcoming, unforgettable & a place that all should patron.
We were staying at The Hamilton by the restaurant & walked in on a Sunday evening with no reservations & 3 young kids. Admittedly, we didn’t know what type of restaurant it was but we gave it a shot as it was close. (Would totally recommend reservations as the place filled up quickly within 15min of us arriving)
The entry bar counter was full & there was an 8-person table with a few duos seated throughout the restaurant.
We were sat quickly, given water & menus.
Our server was attentive & informed us that there are a few kid dishes off menu that ours may like & upon hearing that there were burgers, all 3 of ours immediately said yes!
Our table ordered quite a bit:
2 House margaritas, 2 old fashioned, a green chili burger, green chili stew, 3 kid burgers, a cobbler, sundae & slice of key lime pie.
All of it was fantastic! What sealed the deal for our experience was chatting with chef & restauranteur Murphy O’Brien and having the warmest conversation that included his personal recommendations for local places to eat at throughout New Mexico. He was also so enthusiastic about sharing the restaurants history & all of the work that has gone into making it what it is today. We were grateful to have chatted with him & learn the history of The Legal Tender.

We visit Santa Fe often, and we’ve eaten at great restaurants here. This restaurant, however, is two to three times better with regards to food, staff, and ambiance. If you miss dining here while in Santa Fe, you will be missing a very special treat.

OMG one of the greatest Places I have ever been! The atmosphere is incredible! We showed up 10 minutes before they opened and there was a line out the door. Didn’t take long to get to us once they opened though! We were in the middle of nowhere and all of a sudden we were somewhere! Somewhere very special.! We had the French toast special and should have shared. It was so much food. I was torn, so I took the mushroom soup to go and let me tell you, that was one of the greatest things I have eaten In my life! The chef truly leaves it all on the plate! I don’t know how you find a chef like this and get him to come out to the middle of nowhere like this But let me just say WOOOOOOW WE ARE BLOWN AWAY! I would drive five hours for this

Stumbling upon this restaurant was like finding a treasure chest in the desert. Nestled in a remote town where you wouldn’t expect much beyond the basics, this place blew me away with its charm, quality, and atmosphere.
Housed in a beautifully restored historical building reminiscent of a Wild West saloon, the restaurant feels like stepping back in time. The wooden interiors, intricate details, and vintage decor add so much character, making it a memorable dining experience from the moment you walk in.
The menu is surprisingly extensive, offering a variety of dishes that cater to all tastes. I was genuinely impressed by grilled pink trout, chicken liver pate, and cream of mushroom soup. Sunday brunch comes with live music as well!

We’ve been wanting to return to this restaurant since a while. Finally we did tonight and unfortunately it’s a mixed experience at the end.
I would say that for the most part it deserves five stars. All the staff were very polite and warm. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable, until they brought my dessert. I thought the Tender Sundae I got was pathetic for $12. Before I started writing this review, I saw someone posted an image of the sundae they got a month ago. It was day and night.. Please see my picture and judge it yourself.
I don’t want to make any assumptions but I have to wonder what happened to my $12 dessert.
We still plan to go back there in the future. I just wish that the sundae incident didn’t happen..

I’m voting The Legal Tender the best bar and afternoon hang out spot in the SF area. Service, food, drinks and the old west ambiance made for a perfect experience! In this day and age that’s a rare find. The reboot of a SF institution that’s struggled to gain traction in the past, has finally found its hay day. Richard and Thomas are a dynamic duo behind the bar who made us feel like VIPs.

This was an unexpected pleasure. I was talking to the owner of a small cafe on Canyon Rd in Santa Fe. She said this was #2 on their list of favorite restaurants. It is about 20 minutes north of Santa Fe in Lamy, NM. The pink trout was great, the drinks were reasonable, and the atmosphere was really cool. This was a Victorian Era general store across from the railroad station. It’s just really neat with an “old town” style saloon and bar. I spoke with the GM, and they hold events here regularly. They have an extra larger room and outdoor seating.
