We went to the bar to place our order! We opted for the Knotty Boy Garlic Knots for $10 & the Fully Loaded Detroit Style Pizza for $15I had a bottle of water and though he was very disappointed that it was ONLY their WV Craft Beer served, he went with what the bartender recommended (closest to a PBR & Budweiser that they offered ) for $5.50, total with taxes & Tip was $42.
We were surprised that the food was out in like 15 minutes. We fully expected to wait since Detroit Deep Dish normally takes 30 minutes to 45 minutes to cook fully. This led us to believe it was PAR BAKED for faster Customer Service which to many is NOT A PLUS! The Garlic Knots were very doughy and extremely dense in texture. Not a fan!
The service was fast and friendly but for the atmosphere, price and the fact they are trying to be trendy, the paper plates & plastic cutlery was a BIG NEGATIVE!! I know myself even if Melanac Hard Plastic for plates is okay, but I want true Silverware!!
The sauce has a really Great flavor and the cheese pull was very nice on the pizza. The sauce served on top, a big big plus!! I live in Ripley, WV and drove 35 minutes one way to enjoy this meal, but the question is…would I do it again?? Probably NOT! I give them a 5 out of 5 on atmosphere and ambience they nailed that! I give them a 4 out 5 on Customer Service because the food came too fast!!
I give them a 3 out 5 for the food, the sauce was perfect but everything else about taste and flavor was a hit and miss. The score might have been higher if I had left off the Knotty Boy Garlic Knots!! The beer though I tasted it wasnt bad but Im not a beer drinker, my hubby was very disappointed so thats 2 out of 5 stars and the tableware scores a zero!! I wasn’t on a picnic and the paper and plastic screams picnic or lazy kitchen staff to me!!
So, would I recommend? I must say overall, 3 stars out of 5 stars! I recommend you go and decide for yourself!
Also, in the picture below is their $1 side of pizza sauce… no where near the 3 oz serving described over the phone. These are clearly at best 2 oz cups. Their sauce is really just tart with nothing much else going for it. There was much less of it than expected for Detroit style too, but I was actually okay with that since it was so mid. Getting a side of sauce is literally highway robbery, so skip it if you try them out.
Lastly, the staff was very rude over the phone and not much better in person. You would have thought the Short Story bar (which Leftys is inside of) was crazy busy with how the people on the phone acted… when I got there, there were 2 couples eating in and 1 party getting 2 pizzas to-go. They then had me wait another 15 minutes, even though I arrived after the timeframe they gave over the phone.
I usually don’t go this hard on new businesses but I was disgusted that I spent over $100 on this and my pizza-loving neices could barely finish 3 bites… we ended up giving them leftover soup I had made the day before with pepperoni rolls and croissants.
Fife street, just up the road is a much better option if you are going for the hipster drinking vibe but want halfway decent food.
Great price point for a delicious pizza, good beer tap selection (had the Maibock which was ice-cold and refreshing), and overall just a comfortable atmosphere. Sit-down tables, high tops, bar/board/card games tucked into the corner, and no music so everyone was just chatting and having a great time.
Definitely a must-try for visitors to the area!
