The food itself was awful. The eggs were effectively diced up hard boiled eggs. Not the consistency you’d expect. Calzone was burnt and dry.
Would never come back. Spend your $ somewhere else.
In this case, I ate here alone so not much more to say about that. It’s likely that had I been here with my friends or family, we would not have chosen Ledo Pizza to eat. So in a way, my solitude led me here.
The environment: this isn’t a restaurant in the rural Italian countryside, it’s in an airport in Baltimore, so y’know temper your pizza expectations. But there’s something calming about seeing the steady departure of flights through the window, hearing ping of a PA system before an announcement as a custodian rolls a trash can down the corridor. It’s an airport ambiance. And sometimes, that’s even better than a villa in Naples or something. (I’ve never been to Italy so take this with multiple grains of salt.)
Lastly but certainly not leastly, there’s the context, the emotions, the mentality. Maybe if I hadn’t had a 6:30 am flight, wasn’t exhausted, my suitcase handle came up properly, and had eaten more than a bag of almonds and a ginger ale then I’d rate this pizza more objectively. But that’s not the case, so with all those things are going on in my head, this pizza really hits the spot.
I probably won’t be back for more, given that it’s in an airport and all. But if you read my review and find my situation relatable, give this place a try. You could certainly (le)do worse I guess.
Long review:
Went to the airport via light rail with my wife to drop off my brother-in-law. His flight was delayed by 2 hours and we didn’t want to leave him bored in the airport so decided to stick around and get something to eat at the airport. My wife loves checking Yelp and Google to figure out where to eat and every single well-reviewed option (she wanted to try the sushi place- Gachi) was on the other side of security. Since he was the only one with a boarding pass, we only had a few options. Ledo’s reviews were pretty bad but I decided I would try it out anyway. I almost got the 6″ pizza, which includes a fountain drink but really wasn’t interested in the drink and instead went with the “Build-our-own” 8″, which costs $8.99 plus $1.25 per topping. I also considered the veggie option, which was close to $13 for the same size pizza so I decided to just make my own to save a few bucks. I got mushroom and onions, which combined super well on the pizza and were well worth the extra $2.50. I really can’t recommend this place enough, I was really impressed and can’t believe it had such a low rating! Also, if you are looking to kill time at the airport, check out the Observation Gallery near Ledo’s (upper level near B/C security checkpoint) and the stained-gladd crab near concourse A.
