Friend and I decided to try Leaning Tower of Pizza. We try different eateries atleast twice a month. The waitress was very friendly. Appetizers of bread bites were very, very good tasting and hot. Could probably bring a little bit more marinara for dipping, the pizzas were very tasty.
The reason for a four not a five star was because on the front of the menu is someone with a wrong colored university sweatshirt on there might be a good idea to maybe not have a certain college on them and just be all neutral.

This is an AMAZING family restaurant! We loved the atmosphere and the staff. We got to visit with the owner and learned a little bit of the history of the place that was originally started in Des Moines in the 60’s. They have homemade onion rings, which were delicious. Their pizzas were really good with all fresh ingredients and homemade Italian sausage and a crust that was perfection. Can’t wait to go back to try more of their pizzas and their pastas!!!

Leaning Tower Pizza in Uptown, Ankeny delivers every time. The pizza was loaded with toppings and baked to perfection, and the garlic bread bites were buttery, crispy, and impossible to stop eating—especially with the marinara. It’s always great finding places that care about quality and do it right. Glad we’ve got a spot like this close to home!

We visited The Leaning Tower of Pizza tonight and my daughters and I were impressed with how comfortable and relaxed we were at Leaning Tower. This restaurant has been located in Ankeny since the 1979’s and definitely has the nostalgic feels. My daughters ordered mini cheese pizzas from the kids menu, and I ordered the Hot Ham and Cheese sandwich with onion rings. The food tasted great, and the prices were reasonable.

We have been going here for several years now. We drive from Altoona to Ankeny for their pizza, and onion rings. It was always worth the trip. Like the atmosphere. Service has always been good. Pizza has always been right up there with the best. The onion rings are fresh, hand cut, and in the past were always well battered, and they too made the trip worth it, but the last several times we’ve been there we have found that the onion rings have went downhill. They show up with very little, if any batter on them. I don’t know if someone is thinning the batter to much, or what exactly the issue is, but I really don’t think these are the quality of rings the owner would want sold in his restaurant. They are certainly not the quality we had come to expect in the past. That’s the only reason I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5. Might be time for a quality check.
We went back to tonight. No change in the onion rings. Extremely disappointing. Watched an employee tossing them in a dry powder like substance. The powder does not stay on in the oil. I believe they use to use a liquid batter. Onion rings were so much better. After years as a customer, we will not be going back. We have found better pizza, and onion rings close by.

Pizza is good, the crust is crispy. The toppings were just average. Spaghetti is terrible. Just like something from a fast food store. Wet spaghetti covered with plenty of tomato sauce. You can get better sauce from a store bought bottled sauce. House salad is ok, house dressing is just mayo.

Only 2nd time here but we’ll be regulars from now on. Probably the best pizza I’ve ever had & the Cheese Bread was really good too. Waitress tonight was awsome. Highly recommend this place

The food was decent. The house dressing for the salad tasted like mayonnaise, and they were out of spaghetti, but I liked my pasta. I felt like the garlic bread was a little overcooked. There were a lot of guys in back of house but only one waitress, who did very well considering how busy it was. Very reasonably priced. I’d like to go again, but I’ll probably try the pizza next time.
