When I arrived at the restaurant there were no host to greet us and we just line up until there is empty table. And when I ask the waiter he let me to sit on the sofa and I thought was just to wait there until a table pop up. After ordering the food he told me to eat at the sofa although I told him that I need a higher table to eat.
I understand that the restaurant is busy during weekend and not many table but please let customer to know whether they are comfortable to eat at a lower table I think is basic fnb courtesy
The food was below average, it was cold. Mushroom soup taste like something from a packaging
White wine taste was bland and the waiter didn’t even told me which wine they are serving. It was 100,000kip per glass
Bad experience
“If there’s just one thing Laos seems to do better than Thailand, it’s affordable foreign food options. The two French restaurants we’ve done so far have been astounding value… as was the Indian restaurant on our first night”
The soufflés were a real treat. They also oder since Italian food for those that have not acquired the taste for French cuisine.
The food in general has been good over the many decades I’ve been to the restaurant, but quality has stagnated over the years. One thing that has stayed consistent are their pizzas and salads, which I recommend !
They also have a decent wine selection, just make sure to not order by the glass and get a bottle instead. They use boxed wine if you order by the glass.
The food was good, but the chateaubriand bit tough – however given the price it must be from local beef, for which it’s considered quite tender.
The baked pasta was very good, and the Soufle – OMG.
I’ve never seen such a big fluffy Soufle, which is definitely sharing size, maybe even a full meal on it’s own. The egg white was very velvety and cooked to perfection. It’s recommend that you order the Soufle at the same time as the main dishes, it takes at least 20 minutes to prepare. The staff times it perfectly for it to arrive 5 minutes after we finished our mains.
It looks like this place has been here forever, the interior is quite dated, a bit dark, and reminds me of a neighborhood Brasserie in a rural France. It felt a bit cramped, especially since the restaurant was full.
The charcuterie and paté were of top quality and the accompanying bread was just as it should be.
My dish of scallops (coquilles Saint Jacques) was extremely tasty and my friend’s salmon was delicious.
The waiting staff were discreet, attentive and efficient yet friendly at the same time.
Well worth a visit!
Maybe the (Lao) senior waiter was educated at The Sorbonne, where it’s instilled in students to be as surly as possible on hearing an English accent?
The waiter only spoke four words to me throughout the entire meal. No “Hello, how are you, what would you like, how’s your meal” etc. When ordering my meal: “Fries or roast potatoes?” was all I got- no smile. The waiter brought the meal to the table and casually slid the plate almost infront of me, WITHOUT LOOKING at me or the table! I asked for the duck to be cooked Medium. It was served just about Blue.
It then became a game of who would speak first. He’s a tough competitor though. Without speaking, I gave the ‘scribble hand gesture’ to request the bill. The wallet was also casually slid just about within reach on my table. I placed bank notes in the wallet, got up to leave without looking at the waiter and not saying “Thank you”. I felt he hadn’t earned the courtesy. Needless to say the waiter didn’t thank me for my visit or wished me a pleasant evening.
Don’t waste your money at Le Vendome. The staff clearly couldn’t care less whether you dine there or not.
