We’ve made this pilgrimage to the Le Penguin now every trip to beautiful and charming Greenwich,Ct.
It feels just like Paris without airports and long air flights! The entry is charming with dark blue velvet drapes as an airlock and create some illusion of entering another world! Once inside Le Penguin we are always reminded of the beautiful orange grass cloth wall coverings and royal blue trim work. Unique and appetizing!
This “trip to Paris” we shared a gorgeous hamburger with the world best authentic French fries!
But started with a rich bowl of steaming hot French onion soup! Perfect choice for 13″ of snow on the ground. My beautiful daughter had the prawns on the garden salad. The picture shows enough to encourage you to be healthy! An extensive wine list is available with a beautiful bar. We fought off the temptations for French desserts or wine….
This must be the 7th or 8th trip vicariously to France via Le Penguin. The staff are so extremely kind and to be honest friendly and efficient ( without hovering or interruptions).

Basically – this place is a consistent 10 for lunch. Classic French bistro with a great scene. Only thing more consistent than the brown bag of warm delicious French bread delivered when you sit down is the Birkin bag held by the woman sitting next to you. Glasses of wine pretty much everywhere. Service is warm and prompt. Escargot and mussels are always a great call. Tempting specials can be found on the wall mounted chalkboard. Have not been here for dinner but can’t imagine it disappoints.

Classic French bistro food but not average at all. Cozy lively vibe. Couldn’t have had a better lunch.

We were seated at 12:30 for lunch and ordered our appetizers, The delicious escargot and yummy pate arrived at our table almost immediately. Then we waited and waited approximately 50 minutes while others who arrived after us were served. The Niçoise salad for $30 had three small slices of tuna. The burger that was to be medium, was rare. The filet mignon, that was to be rare was medium. The steak was accompanied with a peppercorn sauce that was definitely spoiled and we returned it to the waiter. Never did he offer an apology or offer a substitute to go with the steak. We paid our bill and went across the street to the bakery for coffee and dessert.

Le Penguin provided an outstanding dining experience that deserves five stars! The duck was cooked to perfection, bursting with rich flavors and tender texture. The steak frites were equally impressive, with juicy steak and perfectly crispy fries. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was impeccable. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable meal!

Our experience at Le Penguin was good overall, but the bouillabaisse left us disappointed. The broth was lukewarm and severely under-seasoned. The seafood was cooked well, but the amount received was much smaller than expected compared to other dishes we ordered. That being said, the steak frites was very good. The sauce was slightly too acidic, but great cook on the meat and crispy fries. Service was excellent great atmosphere.

Great experience. Like a 4.8 for everything. We got mussels, steak and frites, and ravioli. Mussels in the white wine sauce are as amazing and the steak was tender. For dessert we got the apple tart and arrogate and both were perfectly sweet and a delicious way to end the night. The ambiance makes for a perfect date night. Great spot in Greenwich.

I haven’t been to Greenwich in so long since I left in 1992. So it was definitely a treat to come back for a visit and stop at a bistro that I never tried. It did not disappoint. The plus was that I had my Mom and my sister with me. Food & service were both great. It is definitely a must go to French bistro.

It was a lovely food and wine experience, but the noise level isn’t good for anyone’s ears. Also, as a minority, what could be heard discussed even over the noise made the whole dining experience disappointing. It’s Greenwich, it’s classist, we shouldn’t have expected it to not carry over to the dining experience.

solid meal with a few misses… the foie platter was great and definitely our favorite! the steak frites was good but not cooked evenly- part of the steak was beyond well done while the rest was medium rare. ask for the peppercorn sauce with the steak! the Caesar salad was too anchovy for our taste, and my latte was very disappointing. the mussels were good, but not my favorite. overall, it is a solid spot with good food & friendly staff, but you have to know what to order.
