Great spot!! Lots of outdoor seating and awesome atmosphere. We just ordered tapas and had plenty of food to try and share. Really cozy spot with something for everyone. The poke nachos were great and so was the coconut shrimp. Great place to hang out and grab some drinks for a while.

A terrific dining experience along the walk in Carlsbad. Heat lamps enhance the ombiance, and most importantly, the service and food were very good. The menu is varied with everything from salads to steak, pasta, & Mexican food. The wine selection was also good. We had a great time and will be returning.

Papagayo used to be one of my favorite spots in town — I’ve lived here over 10 years — but it’s gone completely downhill. Last night’s wings were rubbery, not crispy. The mac and cheese was literally swimming in oil, and the pretzel bites were just “meh.” Overpriced, poor quality, and zero real customer service — when I pointed out the mac and cheese, the waitress said she would let her manager know and came back and just said, “Thanks for letting us know.” Not her fault but shitty management decision for sure!
Not looking for freebies, just good food and decent service, and this place delivered neither. If you want drinks and music, maybe it’s still worth a stop, but for food? Hard pass.

Great food, kind staff. The tapas are really tasty, perfect portions. We had the calamari strips and the chicken satay. Even the desserts are a stand out.

I loved the atmosphere and vibe. It had different corners to seat with different vibes, inside was louder because of live music (which was really good) and outside was quieter and better for talking.

I’m not from the area but this is not it. Not for the price. Maybe it’s just the area. Who is paying this for this sad amount of food and bad service. I even made the reservation because I thought, Saturday night will be super busy, didn’t even need to do that. I will commend them for having good bar service so you can get drunk while waiting an hour for food (If you could get drunk, the expensive drinks were weak and also expensive). Music was good. It wasn’t even busy enough for such slow service. It wasn’t as many fish selections as the reviews state. The only redeeming quality was the corn tortillas. Whoever is making their corn tortillas is their golden goose. The food was good but I guess designed for the sad rich people over here who like a breath of taste of their food.

We’re a party of Four looking for another restaurant to have brunch. Fortunately, that one was closed on Monday. So we just drove down the road and chose La Papagayo. What a fortunate decision. Everything was amazing. The vibe, service, food and hospitality. All excellent. Appreciate Alonso (Al) for his top notch work. Definitely recommend.
