We were a party of 10, which seems a little unusual for them since they had a table for 6-8 and a table for four next to each other. It worked out well.

The service was pretty great, although there were a few awkward pauses. We had three people circulate our table, so we always had drinks and a tidy table.

There were a few items that they didn’t have. Gringo poutine was no longer on the menu, and they were out of ceviche.

Food! I’m not usually a fan of oyster, but I liked theirs a lot. The charcuterie was delicious, the smoked cheese was a big hit, along with pickled cauliflower. Again, plain blue cheese is not something I usually love, but this one was creamy and perfectly balanced for me.

Atmosphere is. 11/10 absolute BLAST. Our table was finding it hard not to just start dancing! Disco lights and other party lights were fun and obvious, but not overwhelming.

There was a taxidermy pheasant that I loved, and a huge stash of underburg.

Go for the vibes, don’t settle on what food to get before, and try things you wouldn’t normally like.

Nice location and stylish decor. The place is advertised as a restaurant, but was much more like a bar on Friday at 7pm.

The host/bouncer asked for IDs when we entered, we had made a reservation – but it didn’t seem to matter.

We were escorted to our high top table, but didn’t seem to have a server – it took a while for the bartender to bring us our menus and water. There seemed to be a bit of confusion on who would attend to our table between the friendly bartenders.

The cocktails were decent. The food wasn’t as good. We got the smoked trout dip and bone marrow for appetizers, both were pretty small and bit disappointing in terms of taste – and bread-heavy.

The menu has less items than before, the main course options were steak, burger, or a sandwich. The steak was small but tasty with a slab of herbed butter, and the fries that came with it were decent. The sandwich and accompanying salad were quite salty. With such few options, the dishes could be more polished.

The check had an automatic 20% gratuity for 2 people, which didn’t quite match the service – and the food quality didn’t match the price point. The music is also quite loud, and made conversation challenging.

Le Mont Royal seems great as a bar and I would go for its happy hour. But as a restaurant for a nice dinner, it didn’t meet expectations and could perhaps be marketed more accurately.

Great poutine, nice people! I love Montreal & go regularly. So anytime I see poutine on a menu south of the border, I must try it. Glad I did. They fry their fries Belgian style. Equals great texture & less soggy after bathing in gravy and cheese curds. And this place’s gravy? Nailed it. I had the duck gravy. Tre magnifique also thank you to Adam, who cares about quality & checked up on the food, and Julian for being kind

Had a reservation for 11, still needed to wait a bit because there is really only one large table for groups. Staff were very friendly, but one large group at 6 created a dinner rush – which is not something they do much (open to 2 am, had a vintage clothing popup store out front on Saturday afternoon). It’s basically a bar/dance club with a decent menu of French Canadian bar food, meant to represent the nightlife. The food – quite good, really. The Virginia and Prince Edward Island oysters both very good, fresh as you can get, price at happy hour reasonable. Charcuterie plate was solid, a bit pricey, but still. Deviled eggs a bit salty, interesting presentation with crunchy sticks on top. Chicken wings very crispy, like Korean. Poutine was great, very tasty, very fresh. The burgers were impressive, tall, fresh, nicely done; all sandwiches quite good. Drinks were delicious and mildly creative. The price was … well, it fits with the neighborhood. The decor is over the top – by design. Purple, disco themed. The music was interesting, not overly loud but definitely ‘club.’ All in all, the group had a good time, and the group that was leaving – bunch of 20 something girls – seemed to be having fun too. The crowd at the bar was engrossed in various conversations. Very lively.

We had our wedding afterparty here in the spring and it was amazing. Chas, the owner, was super responsive and welcoming and made sure we had the best time. Drinks were great, vibes were awesome. Highly recommend for your events – or just pop by if you’re in the neighborhood!

I’m already planning my return to Le Mont Royal to partake in their amazing happy hour.

This was the first time that I visited this establishment and I basically tried a little bit of everything from the menu.

Between the good vibes coming from the turntable to the great service being provided by Bracey, Justin and Ryan, I couldn’t have asked for a better first impression.

This has officially been minted as one of my all time fav happy hour spots!

There is a rumor they have the best custom Hi-Fi sound system in DC. And if there isn’t a rumor saying that, I’m starting one now. DJs playing and eclectic mix of funk, jazz, and disco and more on vinyl ever night of the week. Great staff, food, cocktails, and music make Le Mont Royal a must on your list of places to check out.

I arrived early with my group and we were happy we got there just in time. Throughout the night there was a line of almost 100+ people waiting to get in. I almost felt like the build out and ambiance was so good it took away from the food. It boasts high tops, booths, traditional/date tables, and even a pool table. It’s a place where everyone can go on any occasion.

As for the food, I would never even talk about this food in the same realm as your local bars “really good burger.” This is a place you go to celebrate or enjoy the night. The food is strong enough to exist on its own and pays homage to Canadian classics all while staying true to the chefs vision. Fluke tartare, elk shoulder, and bone marrow with escargot do not scream “meh” to me in any way, shape, or form.

It’s a phenomenal place and I will be adding it to my DC restaurant rotation. Highly suggest, you won’t be disappointed!

Noteworthy food and drinks in a fun, yet classy environment makes for the perfect date night. On a Saturday, my wife and I dined at Le Mont Royal from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Here’s our experience.

1) Food: With quite the resume, the chef-owner creates dishes that change often based on what’s in season. Literally every single dish was unique and flavorful, even dishes I was hesitant on like the bone marrow and escargot or the rabbit sando. Here are our favorites.

-Scallop ceviche- it was very refreshing and the pickled strawberries added a unique twist.

-Miso mushroom gravy and cheese curd poutine- it’s the ultimate comfort food and the cheese wasn’t spongy. My wife doesn’t like poutine and really enjoyed this one.

-Mushroom tart- even though it comes out in big portions, the dish is confident and yet very light.

-Bone marrow, escargot- it comes with toast that could stand on its own and full of flavor. Spread the escargot with the marrow on the toast and you’re in buttery heaven.

-Chocolate mousse- it comes with layers of texture that make it unique while preserving the chocolate taste.

2) Drinks: The owner knows wine and drinks with a background in a distillery and wine bar. He paired every dish perfectly and even served us a Czech wine and an Austrian wine that made the entire evening.

3) Service: It’s impeccable from the hostess to the server to the chef. Everyone was down to earth and passionate about what they’ve created together. That passion rubs off on its patrons.

4) Space: It’s in a two-level building with purple neon lights and disco balls surrounded in a more classy bar with funky wallpaper. (Don’t believe me? Head to the bathroom.) It’s what D.C. needs. It’s sophisticated yet accessible and funky in a fun way. It gives D.C. permission to unwind.

5) Neighborhood: It’s near the heart of Adams Morgan surrounded by nightlife and other restaurants. (Though, all you need is inside Le Mont Royal staying open late and with good food.) Parking can be tough but doable.

(Disclaimer: Our food and drink were comped, but we left a generous tip. Views are my own.)

We really enjoyed this place. They had a good drink selection. Service was great. They hid the tip as a service charge on the bill. I saw it was added for “my convenience” on the menu, so I checked to make sure it was on there. Otherwise, nice location. I would definitely recommend this place.
