Excellent restaurant. Top class food and lovely food. Great menu and so much to choose from. All freshly made. My only criticism is I had a Bouillabaisse, and it must have had a star anise in the amazing stew. I bit into it, and aniseed filled my mouth, which overpowered the other beautiful flavours. However, it is a top restaurant and will return.

Just had a wonderful experience at Le Mistral (Wirksworth). We were welcomed immediately by the attentive staff and were taken downstairs into a lovely cellar with great ambience. I even liked the music setlist and the volume was just right!!! We started with an aperitif; Kir Royale and a Rum and coke. Service is swift and professionally efficient…a cold jug of water was also immediately provided. We selected from an authentic menu; the whitebait and squid rings to start followed by pan-fried sea bass. We were delighted by the high quality food placed in front of us. The highlight was most definitely the sea bass. We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant.

My partner and I came in for a quick valentines snack while walking around Wirksworth and we were incredibly disappointed. We walked in and stood by a table as we didn’t want to stand in the doorway whilst we worked out what we were doing. The lady behind the bar barked at us to ask if we had a table booked and made us feel like an inconvenience while we stood there. Once sat down, we thought we had to order at the bar as we were only having a couple drinks but my partner went up and the same lady essentially told him off like he was hassling her for the drinks when he simply thought that’s what he had to do. I’m sure the food is lovely but we were told there was no time for us to eat, only have a drink and even then that felt like a push. The drinks were the usual cafe type drinks and everytime the ‘front of house’ staff came to us, she was very rude and sarcastic. We will definitely not be coming back, even sitting down we felt rushed and unwelcomed. We could also hear the staff talking about us while making the drinks which made us feel very uncomfortable. I wish we got the drinks to takeaway so we didn’t have to stay longer than needed.

Food was unfortunately horrendous.

The mussels starter did not taste fresh and was served in a sloppy overly bitter tomato sauce.

For mains I got the lamb which was grey and came with smushed up veg on the side that was inedible. My gf got the steak which we had to send back because it was freezing.

It was later returned reheated seemingly in a microwave .

The mains were also was 30 quid a plate lol.

Service was ok i guess but didn’t make up for the horrible food.

My partner and I went in today for a couple of coffees and some “snacks”, as it was only around 3:30pm. The grumpy lady who served us looked liked she must hate working there as she checked if they had spare seats for us. She did not smile at all, or make us feel welcome (the younger blonde lady was pleasant though with other customers). Eventually, she took us downstairs, like she was doing us a huge favour and seated us in a dingy corner which felt very claustrophobic. You could hear a pin drop in there, terrible atmosphere more like a wake than Valentines day, so we got up and left as we wanted to actually speak to each other without being overheard. Had a lovely meal in Matlock instead. Not a pleasant experience at all.

Just been for meal at this little treasure of a restaurant. Service was beyond friendly, lovely ambience, food was out of this world. Being vegetarian for 40 years I do get bored of the same menu BUT they had a few amazing different options which I went for the beetroot and lentil bourguignon which tasted outstanding. My husband had for the pork belly and also agreed the food was beyond delicious. Very Highly recommended.

It’s over fifty years since I spent many w/es in France. I love my food this is real french food. Not the arty farty restaurants in London where I have lived for the last 30 years. I have just had the mussels as a starter, followed by bou can’t spell it the fish stew so good in Marseilles and to finish black cherry tarte tatine food excellent best french food I’ve tasted outside France.

Following a walk on nearby high peak trail, had a lovely lunch here. Fixed price lunch menu of 2 courses for £19.95 was excellent value, and all three of us thoroughly enjoyed our choices.

I don’t usually like to leave a bad review but the food here was so bad. Everything tasted like it had been defrosted, the steak was utterly bland, the prawns tasted horrible. The staff were lovely but the meal was probably the worst I’ve ever had and it came to £90. So disappointed, I would stay well clear.
