Not going to write much outside of this being my favorite French boulangerie/bakery in the city. Excellent canelé and a very solid Plié au Chocolat (i.e. chocolate twist) with other goodies as well. There’s a reason why a lot of restaurants nearby use their baguettes as well due to their quality with the rest of the breads being good as well. Would recommend.

I’ve been looking for a typical French bakery, and as someone originally from Paris, I was really happy to find this spot. Back home, croissants are about €1, and I’ve gotten used to paying much higher prices in the U.S. — but I was pleasantly surprised to find a large chouquette for only $1! It was really good: light, fluffy, and just as it should be, with large pieces of sugar on top.

I also tried what they called an almond croissant, though it was shaped more like a pain au chocolat — filled with both chocolate and almond. It was pretty good and I enjoyed it. The cannelé is usually my favorite French pastry. The inside texture was right, but the outside was much too hard — not the typical crust and really tough to bite. Maybe it was just that one batch.

The cappuccino was fine — not a highlight, but decent. Coffee isn’t really the star here, and the portion was small, but they also sell a variety of French biscuits and grocery products, even things like Chocapic cereals ($13.95 here versus about €5 in France), which felt too pricey.

There are just a few tables inside and a couple of benches outside. It was a sunny Saturday, eso I sat outside and enjoyed my treats for the most part. I wanted to try the pistachio croissant, but they weren’t making it that day. I’ll definitely come back to try other pastries — the apricot croissant looked especially tempting.

Overall, I spent under $18 including tip, which felt like decent value for what I got. A nice little taste of France!

What a cute spot! I’ve walked by so many times and never went in, but I’m so glad I finally did. Huge bakery, amazing sandwiches—I had one of the best roast beef sandwiches I’ve had in a while. Super friendly staff and a really good coffee too. Definitely coming back and adding this to my regular rotation in the East Village.

Reviewing to add Le Fournil opened a brand new second location today at 1247 3rd Avenue (at 72nd) on the UES. Just as yummy, but with even more seating, ample large outlets for plugging in to get “work” done, lots of natural light, and a customer restroom! (Photos are from the new location which just opened TODAY!)

I really really really like this bakery. It’s my go to for baguettes and anything French. I lived in Paris for a couple of months and this Bakery Le Fournil is authentic to its core.

Amazing Service from Mark!
I had such a great experience at this café today. Mark, the barista, was absolutely fantastic—friendly, attentive, and welcoming from the moment I walked in. He made amazing recommendations, prepared my drink perfectly, and created such a positive atmosphere.

It’s rare to meet someone who genuinely enjoys what they do, and Mark really made my visit special. Thank you, Mark! I’ll definitely be coming back because of you. ☕✨

A must do stop on any NYC trip. And if you are lucky enough to live nearby, check it out. The finest croissants and other pastries. Friendly and helpful staff, too.

Le Fournil is a charming French bakery. I especially loved their apple turnover, and apricot Danish—both perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and full of flavor. Their bread is also fantastic; I’ve tried their walnut loaf several times, and it’s always fresh and delicious. The coffee is also great. The staff is friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place!

I travelled far to try their canele and was disappointed they did not have any that day. I inquired when they might have them again and the service person said he was not privy to such information. Next, we ordered a pastel de nata, cinnamon cruffin and Madelein. Ironically, the nata (portugese) was delicious but the other items were not.

The cruffin had the hardness of a hockey puck and was obviously quite old. To be polite I asked if they could warm it in hopes of softening it rather than asking for a full refund on such an expensive pastry. The service people looked at one another and smirked like I was making an absurd request. They attempted to warm it half heartedly and the top was no scalding but it was no more edible.

The interior space is beautiful with incredibly high ceilings and charm. However, it is very poorly kept and I had to clean off my own table, observed a mess overall in the condition.

In retrospect, this experience was disappointing im afraid.
