How much I would love to love this place. Well situated, serving the Tenleytown community, it offers so much potential with its wide veranda and French dishes.
Unfortunately, I cannot.
For one thing it is overpriced. $17 for an onion soup, that wasn’t tasty at all. The salmon terrine, despite its tasty salad, was not pleasing to the eye nor the palate.
Bread was good.
Guys, there are a lot of French restaurants in DC with your competition not too far away.
Step it up, I would hate to see you go

Had a wonderful time at their happy hour. All of the cocktails are superb- extremely talented bartenders. The 5 cheese board was delicious and each cheese was unique. We enjoyed talking about the different flavors and textures. Lovely ambiance, romantic and lovely service. We will be back! Thank you!

We came for lunch.

Started our lunch with
– Rose en Provence – recommend
– Kir – recommend
– Escargot – recommend
– bread

My hightlight is the free bread, it’s warm and soft, and with perfect crust. It goes amazinglt with Escargot.

For entree we ordered
– Bouillabaisse – recommend. this is a seafood stew it goes perfect with the bread
– Beof Bourguignion – recommend, this comes on top of noodles. The flavoring is amazing and the auroma of wine and beef stays in your mouth. My only watch out is, the beef probably comes from varies cuts. Some are not as tender and melt-in-mouth than the others. I had a few cubes that stuck in my teeth.

Dessert, we went for Suzette – it’s crepe in tangy sauce and alcohol. The presentation is great, because it comes in flames.

Everything was delicious! Beef stew was delicious along with steak! We also had a cheese tray with amazing cheeses! For dessert we had crème brulle yum and crepes! Would recommend also parking along the street was easy and convenient. Staff was friendly.

If you’re in the area, this is a new place to have lunch. It’s quiet with a calming cafe aesthetic.

Overall: 5.00. Tres magnifique! Le Chat Noir is as charming & chic as the food is scrumptious & artistically beautiful. Kudos to the chef & team. Impeccable attention to detail & presentation of dishes. While pricey, it’s worth the culinary “experience”. I relished every last bite. Strongly & enthusiastically recommend dining here for romantic dinner or special occasions. Be sure to make reservations.

My partner and I went here for Valentines Day dinner. It took over an hour to receive our appetizers, one of which didn’t require heating up – frogs legs and duck pate. My partner ended up feeling sick and we got our entrees and desserts to go. I have to assume the delay was a result of how busy they were, but it was a disappointing way to spend $200+ for a meal.

Excellent, delicious food and so-so service. They require masks except when you’re at the table and groups are seated every other table. Staff wear masks and they also disinfect the tables after each group.

I was going to give 4 stars because the food is truly excellent with good quality and decent portion sizes for the price. But the more I thought about the service, the more it grated on me, so I’m giving 3 stars.

First, when we arrived, it took over a minute for the staff to notice us. There were already one or two groups seated and the staff were in the back within eyesight of the entrance. But the lady in view was chatting with someone and not looking at the front where we stood waiting. That was a really awkward wait, especially since there isn’t a waiting area and the podium is inside the tables. So we were waiting inside around the tables and the groups already seated. Second, I had made a reservation a few days earlier but they somehow didn’t have it written down. It didn’t really matter since we came soon after opening and there were plenty of tables open, but it was still annoying and baffling.

Then came the service for the meal. It started okay, but it deteriorated after they served the appetizers and salads. When the staff paid attention to us, they were very friendly and efficient. But we had to get their attention first, which usually took a few tries, each time. I suppose I could excuse them since there were only two wait staff for all the tables, but I noticed they were very proactive and attentive to the people seated around us, refilling drinks and quickly clearing finished courses and offering the dessert menu without being asked. Whereas they only offered this excellent service to us if we could catch their attention first. Which, again, took multiple tries.

I don’t know if it was because we were a larger group (six people), seated out of their direct line of sight in the back corner, or it was a deliberate or unconscious snub. Whatever the reason, the service really grated on me.

The food was excellent quality and a good portion size for the price. The NY steak was cooked a little more done than preferred, but still juicy and excellent cut of meat. The Canard Confit was very good and falling off the bone tender. The french fries were crispy and tasty. The salmon was delicious and served with an interesting and yummy spinach flan. The savory crepes were a good size for a meal and also delicious. For dessert, we had various yummy sweet crepes and the Tarte Tatin. The tart was really good, yummy and not too sweet. Also, the whipped cream was hand-whipped, not from a can or tub. I approve .

Overall, if we do come again, it will just be for takeout, not dining in. The service still annoys me a few weeks later.

I joined a friend for brunch at this restaurant over the weekend. Finding a parking spot was easy on the nearby side streets, and for those who prefer not to drive, the restaurant is conveniently located near the metro. Despite being a weekend, the restaurant was not very crowded, with only a few parties in attendance. The waiting staff was very welcoming and attentive. At the beginning, baguettes with butter were served.
From the brunch menu, I ordered the Norwegian eggs benedict which came with a choice of salad or fries. I opted for the fries, which were tasty. Overall, the dish was decent, but it didn’t stand out as exceptional. For dessert, I tried the chocolate mousse along with a cappuccino (there were no non-dairy creamer options available). The chocolate mousse was light and delicious.
I appreciated the friendly and attentive service provided by the staff, and the food was good overall, but there were a few areas that could be improved upon.
