Female hostess on Sunday 2/15 was not friendly or accommodating. Male manager up front was nice & helpful. Gnocchi was delicious, beet salad Ok (a bit heavy with syrup?) oysters were good, drinks = delish. Maybe my eyes were to blame, but I didn’t see any wine under $25+ per glass, which seems like a miss – even for a very nice place? Semi-recommend.

I haven’t written a negative review in a really long time because I truly feel bad for establishments who work so hard, so here goes.

We came in to celebrate our anniversary here and were met with a slightly negative experience.
The cream puffs were burnt and extremely unpleasant to taste. I made it pretty clear I did not eat them, sent the whole thing back and was still charged for it since it was a part of the tasting menu. The server also did not offer to replace the desert with another item to make up for the negative experience. She did however asked if I wanted another one of the same cream puffs to go. No maam! Definitely don’t want another one of those burnt horrors.

I also don’t mean to sound entitled but there wasn’t anything done as a stand out to make the dinner special. This must be me overthinking things because of the burnt cream puffs, but I would’ve rather them not have done anything at all than have stuck a candle in a dessert I was already paying for as part of the tasting menu. I’d love to hear other opinions on this but I almost felt betrayed for them acting like they were surprising us with something we ordered and were already paying for.

Their steak was extremely rare. To a point where it felt highly uncomfortable and chewy (like raw chewy).

I also strongly felt like their tasting menu was not good value for money. We both opted for the tasting menu and later realized each and every portion is just a single serving of their ala carte items just expected to be split between two people. There were two off menu items but both felt like filler items to make up for the menu and we would have been better off ordering items of our choice instead. Once you add everything up, you are MUCH better off ordering Ala carte since you get to opt out of dishes that don’t appeal to you.
I do, however, like giving credit where it’s due. Their red snapper topped with the spicy mole sauce was absolutely phenomenal. Truly, one of the more flavorful servings of fish I have tasted. Their beef tallow fries were also extremely top-notch.

Wow, this space is beautiful. It felt so cozy and comfortable but high-end at the same time when we first walked in… set the tone for one of the best meals in Austin I’ve had. Service is stellar; friendly and attentive. But most importantly the FOOD! We started with the chicken wings (even better than they look… and they look so pretty you almost don’t want to eat them) and the snapper crudo (fresh, punchy). For our main… I’ve never had a more delicious steak au poivre. If you think you’ve ordered too many fries, order another. Our friends had the daily fish and it was gone before I could try it! Finished off with a peach sorbet that literally tasted like I was eating the ripest, juiciest peach ever. 5 stars all the way, will definitely be back soon and bring more friends!

I absolutely loved my experience at New French Restaurant! The new decorations create such a warm and stylish atmosphere. The wine list is well-curated with great options that aren’t overly expensive.

The highlight of the evening was definitely the Wagyu steak – rich in flavor, perfectly aged, and cooked beautifully. It’s honestly one of the best I’ve had in Austin. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for amazing food, a great vibe, and excellent value!

Had the loveliest dinner here – not only was each dish better than the last, but the service was incredible. We absolutely loved both steaks, the creamed kale, the salad, the pommes frites, gnocchi, and the ginger/honey spice cake dessert. Having lived in New York for almost 10 years, Le Calamar would be at the top of even NYC restaurants in my humble opinion!

Just ask your waitress for the specials and order accordingly. Their special sauces on each meal make everything tasty. If you are a party of 6 or more, you have to get prefix dinner, 77 USD per person. The whole experience did not give a Michelin vibe and experience. For birthday, at least they could send out a mini sample dessert to the birthday person.

I’ve never meant a 5 star service more.

Claudia and her very personable team made our date night exceptional. Every bite was incredible. The gnocchi was perfectly crisp.
Hope to be back soon

We came here for an anniversary dinner and had such a lovely time. We were greeted by warm staff, some bubble, and a hand written anniversary note. We ordered sooo many delicious dishes. Our top 2 favorites were the chicken liver parfait, and the snapper. Wish we had room for dessert. We’re definitely coming back!

Best meal and vibes. The hospitality is warm, the esthetic is on point and the food, cocktails and wine list will impress you. So much flavor and you can tell they select quality products- try the chicken, gnocchi (done the French way ), fries, steak, salad, beef tartare. Honestly, you can’t gone wrong with anything on the menu! So much thoughtfulness coming out of this restaurant. It’s a gem and should be on everyone’s hit list!
