Social Profile:

At Le Bistrot Français, the first restaurant in Romania to be part of the renowned Relais & Châteaux association, the history of Bucharest’s architecture harmoniously intertwines with the culinary products, creating a dialogue between the past and the present, and the art on display brings the visitor senses from a multitude of spectrums. Next to the Romanian Athenaeum, in a charming area, the ground floor of the sumptuous house from the end of the 19th century, which houses Le Bistrot Français, takes on a modern air both thanks to the paintings and sculptures of contemporary Romanian artists as well as the Chef’s approach on the cuisine.

Unfortunately, not the best experience.

Our evening started on an awkward note, as we were greeted by a waiter who didn’t seem entirely sure if we were meant to be there, despite us having a reservation.

We waited just over 45 minutes for our starter, the tuna ceviche. Unfortunately, the frozen horseradish on top was more like mayonnaise than anything else, and it lacked the sharpness you’d expect — you really couldn’t taste the horseradish at all.

When we looked through the menu, we were told quite a few dishes, including sides, were unavailable. There were also only two dessert options, which was disappointing and really limited our choices.

When our mains arrived, both dishes were quite bland. I had the beef, which was served with a cold sauce that sadly had no real flavour.

My wife ordered a glass of wine, but the waiter suggested a different one, which felt more like an attempt to avoid opening a new bottle than a genuine recommendation.

On top of that, small details were missed throughout the evening — for instance, the bottle of water was placed on the shelf behind us, but no one came over to refill our glasses when they were empty.

Individually, these issues might seem minor, but together they added up to an experience that was underwhelming. Overall, this restaurant just misses the mark in too many areas.

One of the best spots in city center.
Cozy atmosphere and authentic design are essential “on tops” to the fabulous taste of dishes and accurate service.
We ordered a number of starters to share and I must say they all were absolutely amazing – can recommend foigras and tartar with outstanding serving before mains came.
Great place for romantic dinners of all kind.

If you want to feel royal, you must visit this location. We love coming back every time, it is one of the most elegant locations in Bucharest, not only by design, but by service also.
Attention to detail is what makes a client come back and i must say , Le Bistrot Francais has it.
To begin with, the interior design was re-done, transforming this gem into a place worthy of attending kings and queens.
The wine list is absolutely precious, the food is delicious and the service impeccable. They change the menu every few months and every time is a pleasure trying the new dishes.
The atmosphere is quiet, cosy, peaceful, with good music in the background.
You can sit inside or outside at the terrace, you can enjoy a digestif at the bar after eating, or enjoy a private dinner upstairs where you can also smoke a cigar.
The place is flawless and words cannot honor it enough.Every menu we tried had delicious dishes but i think this one they have now, was the best by far…just with a few small specifications : the lamb needs to be cooked just a minute more. And the desserts, sometimes less is actually more. The desire of giving the client more flavours to taste is very much appreciated , but sometimes it gets right the opposite result.Too many flavours and too many textures alltogether cancel the taste.
We liked the desserts but despite of the exquisite presentation, we couldn’t identify a special flavour to look up to. Overall, everything is fantastic and the welcoming feeling the staff gives us every time is priceless.
For people coming here for the first time or for those saying it’s expensive, yes, it is not a cheap old centre pub and that’s why you will find here fresh ingredients, quality ingredients, quality clients who are discreet and quiet and minding their own business, and last but not least quality service.
As for reservation, it’s recommended but not needed, and parking is difficult, it’s best to take uber. There is possibility of street parking but there aren’t many spots, or private parking but it’s a few streets away and if you are wearing high heels it’s too much to walk.
In the end,
Thank you Le Bistrot Français for offering us a wonderful experience every time and looking forward to visiting you again!

Beautiful location, the food was cooked as desired. The waiters were attentive, they came with the whole variety of cognac and armagnac, recommending us what was best for us and our budget. We also received complimentary snacks (bread and butter and at the end some pistachio dessert).
The downside is that I specified when making the reservation that I wanted a warmer place to stay, because I feel cold all the time and I’m sensitive about this aspect. Also it was my birthday. We received a table at which I felt cold.
When we entered there, it was total silence because they had problems with the sound system, so for almost half an hour it felt awkward. I could hear myself too well and I felt like whispering not to be heard by others. Also, there weren’t a lot of people and I prefer crowded places.
We paid 800+ RON for two persons. For this amount I was expecting a little bit more care towards my specifications for the reservation and also for the atmosphere.

I had great experience! I ordered a 6-course set. Each dish was exquisite and unusual. The waiter was also very courteous and friendly, describing each item and position. The sets are updated every 3-4 months. I’m going to come back when new sets are available!

We were disappointed with the service from the outset. On arrival, we were immediately told that three items on the menu were unavailable — on a Saturday evening at what presents itself as a prestigious fine dining restaurant, this felt unacceptable. I also ordered a French wine (appropriate, given the restaurant’s French branding), but was immediately suggested a Romanian alternative without any explanation other than “it’s Romanian.” While I normally appreciate thoughtful recommendations, this came across less as a pairing suggestion and more as an attempt to avoid opening a new bottle.

Another odd detail: water bottles were stored on the window ledge. If not kept at the table, I would at least have expected the staff to refill our glasses, but instead we had to do this ourselves. The waiter also proceeded to open and try to serve us another bottle of water when not only we haven’t ordered but we even asked prior to that for the bill. Altogether, the service lacked polish and gave the impression of insufficient training in delivering a proper fine dining experience.

As for the food: presentation was attractive, but several dishes lacked depth of flavour, and in some cases didn’t taste as described. One sauce even arrived cold — and with only three tables occupied in the restaurant, I don’t think the kitchen could be excused for such an oversight.

Overall, I wouldn’t call it a bad restaurant, but it falls far short of a fine dining standard. Prices were reasonable, though the wine list felt overpriced. If you’re seeking a true fine dining experience, this is not the place.

Always a wonderful experience dining at Le Bistrot Francais! I was here for their Champagne Brunch on Sunday, with some friends, my wife and my three year old son and we all had a wonderful dining experience. Surely, the live performance of the duet added a very elegant touch, but the food and the service were outstanding. Really looking forward to going back!

A very nice and highly recommended restaurant. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. We had the warm goat cheese salad and the tona salad for starters… amazing. The main course didn’t fall behind.
The atmosphere is very relaxed and the food is very tasty. We definitely come back again. Thank you for a wonderful evening
