Will not be getting anything ever besides the Brussel sprouts and a drink IF I ever go to lazy dog ever again …
I do have to say that the staff was friendly and helpful and the service was quick & efficient.
I ordered 2 entrees to try, not knowing if I would ever revisit this place. I guess Im skeptical since the resto environment is finding ways to increase margin but cutting some quality in their food.
This is not the case here, but I will say that I do set my expectations lower since many of my favorites from dining in late 1990s – early 2000s (yes over 2 decades ago) will be difficult to match in quality from that era!!
Ok so first up was their sea bass. Nicely seared, flaky and glistening; first bite was very good. The cauliflower mash offset the saltiness of the sea bass but I found that it was a bit “too fishy” tasting from my recollections. And for a thin 6oz piece, seemed a bit steep in price.
The 2nd entree was the flat iron steak which I ordered mid-rare but came out a bit over-medium. It was still tasty, especially with that smoked chili butter. The rest of the plate accoutrements was good as expected.
Overall, it’s a vibrant place to visit, but I felt the food was a bit underwhelming. I will try again with their signature burgers, but I do frequent many places that make great burgers that aren’t named Au Cheval.
I ordered tikka masala meatballs and hummus with veggies small plates to start and everything was perfect! The bread for the hummus was crispy, thin, and perfectly seasoned with a garlicky or Parmesan seasoning and the veggies were fresh. The hummus was extremely smooth paired well with everything. The meatballs. Good lord the MEATBALLS! You must get them. I could drown in their tikka masala and cucumber dressing sauce. I’m eating my left overs as I write this and it’s just as delicious heated up. I love spicy food, I would say this is mild spice but with a good kick if you’re not used to it. The micro greens on top were the perfect finish. I’ll be dreaming of these meatballs.
When I saw umami season fries on the menu I had to try them. While fries aren’t my favorite side dish, I do enjoy them from time to time and I’ve never had umami seasoned fries. If you like umami then that’s what you’ll get. It reminds me of the umami shaker I have in my cabinet that I bought from hmart. Very tasty! I also ordered the braised beef birria noodles. The noodles are yakisoba noodles so I wasn’t really sure what I was in for but knowing I love both food categories I trusted it would be good. I was right of course…it was delicious! The side of birria to pour over the noodles completed the dish and perfectly combined all the flavors. The meat was tender and juicy and each bite was packed with flavor.
I saved my thoughts on the chili crunch seared ahi tuna bowl for last. My second favorite thing consumed during my meal. I love raw tuna. Love it, could eat everyday love it. But I also love a good sear. It adds a smokiness and depth to the already perfect fish. I was slightly disappointed to see the chefs forgot to sear my tuna. STILL DELICIOUS! I also wish they added more chili crunch, as I said, I like it spicy. BUT STILL DELICIOUS! Other than those two small but important details, it was a tasty, light dish with perfectly marinated veggies and sticky rice. I would order this again and again. I hope to visit Lazy Dog again and bring people to enjoy the food with next time.
I also would like to shout out the staff, who welcomed me, allowed me to hog their table, and spoke about dogs with me. Everyone was so kind, even the other guest felt welcoming. Overall the atmosphere was comforting.
The atmosphere is one of my favorite things about Lazy Dog. It’s cozy and rustic, with a lodge-style vibe that makes you feel comfortable the moment you walk in. It’s the kind of place that works just as well for a casual weekday lunch as it does for a relaxed weekend outing.
Our server, Jordan, truly made the visit exceptional. From the start, Jordan was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They were knowledgeable about the menu, offered thoughtful recommendations, and checked in at just the right times without ever making us feel rushed. It’s clear Jordan takes pride in providing great service, and it absolutely elevated the whole experience.
The food was just as impressive. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and well-presented. Portions were generous, and you can really taste the quality in each dish. Whether you’re in the mood for comfort food, something lighter, or one of their creative seasonal specials, there’s something for everyone on the menu.
Overall, between the inviting atmosphere, delicious food, and Jordan’s outstanding service, this was a five-star experience. I’ll definitely be coming back—and I’ll be asking for Jordan again!
Menu has an excellent selection of food. Spin on their taste of basic sports bar food. Also they have frozen foods that you can take home to have.
You have an awesome beer selection. You can join their beer club and have stuff you can take home.
Will be going back often
There is pepper and salt on the table to let people season thier own food.
If I eat here again, I will just get an iced tea and pudding.
