I have been here for dinner when it first opened and I would have rated it a 4. This round i had brunch and it was delicious. The Johnny cake was just as fabulous as it was the first time I had it. We shared the hash browns and they were on point. Seasoned perfectly and super crispy. The Benedict was delicious, the mushroom omelette was yummy, and the breakfast sandwich was reported as delicious. I know there is stuff for dinner I need to try so I’m excited to come back. Love the atmosphere and the service was great!!

I wanted to share feedback regarding our dinner at Layline last week, February 24th, while celebrating my wife’s birthday.

After reading a variety of online reviews, some good, some not so good, I arrived with an open mind. We had a 6:00 PM reservation and were seated immediately. Our server, Cameron, was excellent. She acknowledged that it was my wife’s birthday and right away asked if we would like a complimentary glass of prosecco.

Yes!

Since we’re not regulars, the gesture felt genuine and was a lovely way to start our celebratory meal. Truly appreciated. After which, we ordered cocktails. Both, ample pours and very satifying.

We ordered a half dozen oysters (which were fabulous). I ordered the lobster roll and she ordered the sea bass. The lobster was fabulous! And my wife raved about the sea bass.

I’d like to dispell some concerns that I had read in previous comments. Short pours? No. I had a martini that was filled to the rim. My wife had the lychtee champagne. A very generous pour. The lobster roll is NOT served on a hot dog bun. It is served on a proper, lightly toasted, lobster roll bun. It was excellent.

The service staff was prompt, friendly, and attentive. Yes, we were there in the off-season and early in the evening, but our experience could not have been better. 5 Stars. Highly recommended!

Layline Seafood Restaurant is a real win for the town of Excelsior, MN. We’ve waited a bit to get in on their schedule for a Friday evening dinner, and Daniel Del Prado’s new restaurant did not disappoint.

Our table tried the Ahi Tuna Crudo appetizer; it was good (but lacked flavor). I liked the watermelon and grapefruit, but some added fresh watercress would bring a bit of needed zing to it. My main entre of Seared Sea Scallops with roasted butternut squash was superb. The bits of accompanying granny smith apples were a great addition. I often order scallops when dining out – and I’d rate theirs as the best. I already look forward to enjoying it again. The service was excellent; we enjoyed the pleasantness of our well-informed water.

The carbonara pasta is good (a lot of pasta) tasting. I recommend the roasted carrots for a side.

I had the Forest Floor Martini, as we were told it was very “herbaceous.” However, they could not cut back the vodka and I could barely taste the spruce tips and rosemary, which are excellent flavors together. That was disappointing.

For the limited space they have, the conversion from a garage repair shop to a bistro is done really well with a nice bar in the back with seating. The atmosphere is cozy and pleasant. They extended the seating area quite a bit, where it’s bumped out in front with seasonal windows all around. The garage doors were up, and it opened between the two seating areas.

Limited parking. However, we love the town of Excelsior, and walking a bit is pleasant. Nice sidewalk, with two modern fire pits, and nicely landscaped with new trees and lighting. We don’t mind being charged 5% for kitchen help – we know that good help is hard to get—delightful staff. We are thrilled to have this local seafood dining option.

Highly recommended.

An amazing place to eat. With lovely atmosphere. Food is amazing as well as the drinks. Definitely can’t go wrong stopping in for date night. They also offer a cork charge if you bring your own wine. I would recommend a reservation.

Finally made it to Layline! I had wanted to go and try the burger with duck fat fries I had heard so much about. We started with the cocktail of the moment which was a tequila Negroni. Very good! The simple clear presentation with an orange nose meeting you as you raised your glass was wonderful! We ordered the burger as mentioned along with the pok wings which come with the marinated cucumbers. Wings are more like a dry rub than a sauce which I prefer. Flavor is complex. Fully enjoyed these wings. Cucumbers are refreshing. Could use more. Now for the burger… ! Everything I had waited for! Crispy edges with a perfectly done middle. Cheese melts in and bun is soft like a part of the burger not getting in the way. A hint of heat with the peppers. Beautiful! Duck fat fries are good. They are the thin crispy kind. Did they wow me? No, but good. For those who like a thin crispy not quite shoestring, these are great. Personally, I prefer a slightly thicker fry. Again, not a knock, just a preference.
I do love how you can come here for cocktails, a casual dinner or more of a formal dinner all in one place. Food is great!
Looking forward to my next visit!

This was a very pleasant surprise. On our our stop over to Chanhassan we drove to the quaint town of Excelsior about 8min away and picked this place for dinner and it did not disappoint. We sat at the bar and both our bartenders were very kind and attentive. The cocktails were great and the food was excellent. The johnnycake was the best appetizer if you like a savory/sweet taste. Have to admit I saved half for breakfast

I’ve had a light dinner and drinks twice within a month during the holidays. Very festive, really good service and friendly staff. The 90 day aged eggnog is unique and excellent! The tempura vegetables were crispy and the Thai dipping oil was so flavorful. The sliders were tender; the crispy chicken sandwich was crispy on the outside and tender inside.

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in all of Minnesota! Their rotating cocktail and food menu ensures an exciting a delicious experience every visit. I truly believe Layline to have the best service in Excelsior and my oh my does it show. We have brought friends here so many times and been here over a half dozen times ourselves. We cannot wait to go back for a seventh. We recommend the Caesar salad, johnnycake Neptune style, and the oysters never miss!

We were able to get a walk in spot on Friday night! Was not sure what to expect, I thought the food may be a bit more seafood, but they had a bit of everything. Nicely done interior. The tuna was really fresh. Was blown away by the pancake caviar app, super fluffy. Would like to come back for brunch! Worth trying!

Awesome to have in town. Food was excellent. Service was good. Nice patio out front. Ordered the Sea bass and it was great. My wife had scallops and those were also very good. Our table tried all sides and appetizers (we are weird like that) and they were all amazing. We’re will be back. Ps. Get the fries
