Tucked at 112 Washington St., Lava brings something truly refreshing to SoNo. Instead of adding to the usual club scene, owner Noah Katz created a sanctuary with a speakeasy-style piano lounge, live music, and an ambiance that feels warm, elevated, and intentionally curated for a more mature crowd. Think dim lights, soft melodies, and that intimate, grown-and-glowy energy we don’t get nearly enough of in the neighborhood.
The menu leans Mediterranean with a vibrant Hispanic flair, and you can taste the creativity in every bite!
My absolute favorite? The Lava Stone Grilled Shrimp — smoky, tender, beautifully seasoned, and served with that perfect char you only get from real flame. It’s one of those dishes that makes you pause mid-conversation because the flavor deserves a full moment of appreciation.
Lava officially opened its doors on November 5, and honestly, it’s already bringing a whole new rhythm to Washington Street. Great food, live piano, a chic crowd, and a space that feels like a little escape right here in SoNo.
Seafood Martini — fresh, and absolutely delicious.
Welcome to the neighborhood, Lava — you’re exactly what we needed.
Absolutely incredible experience from start to finish. This place is a total gem. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere wraps around you warm, inviting, stylish, and full of personality. You can tell every detail was chosen with intention. It feels elevated but still comfortable, like you’re somewhere special without any stiffness.
The food was beyond amazing beautifully presented, perfectly balanced, and packed with flavor. Every dish tasted like it came out of a chef’s passion project, not just a kitchen. You can genuinely taste the quality and creativity. It’s the kind of menu where you already know you’re coming back before you even finish your plate.
And the downstairs piano bar WOW. That space is pure magic. The vibe is unique, intimate, and unforgettable. Live piano, great energy, and the kind of ambiance that turns a normal night out into a memorable experience. It feels like discovering a hidden lounge that you almost want to keep secret but it’s too good not to share.
Service, atmosphere, food, and vibe all top tier. This is not just a restaurant night — it’s an experience. Highly recommend and already looking forward to my next visit.✨
Barely just above a cup of quinoa lol.
There isn’t much of a reason to come back here since there’s plenty of options next-door that give larger portions for less money

Very friendly service when I stopped by to pickup my order
Okay so the highlight of our dinner (which was my birthday dinner) was the AMAZING pianist and bassist. I felt like I was in NYC at a Greenwich Village concert .
I would encourage everyone to go to this very special venue. They made my birthday a magical experience.
Our experience was immediately soured when we walked in. We were “greeted” by a very curt waitress. No “Hello, welcome…”. She basically barked at us that if we wanted dinner we had to sit upstairs. Ok fine. We sat at the bar, which had 7 open seats, but the chairs were all abutted up against each other. We are tall, and my partner has big shoulders, so we asked her if we could just remove one chair to provide a bit more room. She said no and blew us off. We literally squeezed into the chairs, and within 30 seconds we decided to leave. She completely killed the vibe for us. We ate elsewhere.
BUT…we did return later on and went downstairs to the piano bar which was awesome! Amazing vibe, great music, awesome bartender, and very much fun! We would absolutely return to hang out downstairs. Very cool addition to Sono.
