We decided to venture out a bit and landed at Laurel Diner in Southbury… The food was fantastic and the service was even better. Pete, the chef, clearly knows his way around a grill, and the whole staff was incredibly friendly and personable — the kind of place where you feel like a regular even if it’s your first visit.
Great food, great people, and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend stopping in!

I have yet to meet a single human being or read an online review that has not absolutely RAVED about the Laurel Diner in Southbury, CT! Their extensive and appetizing bevy of breakfast options including pancakes, french toast, signature corned beef hash left me stymied on what to order first. How is one to decide on what to order when everything looks so good? My inner former chubby kid wished he could order it all.… which got my inner competitive eater thinking… if only they offered some kind of breakfast challenge that included all their finest food on a giant platter…..
With such plotting and hungry inner voices working in tandem, I didn’t hesitate in reaching out to owners Peter and his wife Stephanie about creating a fun challenge to showcase some of their tastiest dishes. Fortunately me for me, they were more than happy to make it happen! After some bouncing back and forth of different ideas, they settled on serving up a massive platter that included the following:
(Warning: list may or may not induce involuntary salivation )
-Cap’n Crunch encrusted French Toast topped with strawberries
-Nutella French Toast
-Fluffernutter French Toast
-Blueberry Pancakes
-Banana Pancakes
-Peanut Butter and Jelly Pancakes
-Cannoli Pancakes
-Laurel Diner’s Legendary Corned Beef Hash
-6 over easy eggs
-Plenty of Bacon and Sausage
-Lightly Buttered Cinnamon Raisin Toast
This smorgasbord of carb coma inducing food came out weighing almost 9lbs. Before my brain could decide if my eyes were bigger than my stomach, I got to devouring. After an unbelievably delicious 24:32, I successfully consumed all of the Laurel Diner’s most succulent breakfast offerings. My valiant eating efforts earned me a Laurel Diner T-shirt and hat to sport around!
I cannot recommend the Laurel Diner enough! Despite rapidly eating so many contrasting dishes and flavors piled on top of each other, each and every food stood for me and I could give you more detailed reviews if you ask me ☺️.
Thank you so much to Peter and Stephanie for entertaining my insatiable appetite and creating this fantastic breakfast challenge for me! Especially on a busy Sunday morning already packed with your regular customers! Your staff and family made me feel loved and supported for such a silly and ridiculous food stunt. I hope you get more food warriors in to take on your hearty feast platter .

This was my first time here. I ordered the apple fritters French toast and my friend ordered the Irish eggs Benedict. They were definitely busy, which obviously is a good thing. We waited for seats for about 20 minutes.. not too bad for Sunday. The food was good. The coffee was good. The place was super cute.

I had the homemade corned beef hash, and it was fantastic! Everyone in my family enjoyed what they ordered. Wish we lived closer because this would be my go to breakfast spot! Staff was friendly and courteous. There was a short wait for a table, but it was worth it!!!

Coffee and our breakfast was amazing, orange juice was ice cold and not warm like other dinners. I would strongly recommend you stop by and eat. Owners were very polite and friendly. The only one thing I would recommend is having a sign stating “please wait to be seated.”

Delicious such an at home feeling when you walk in. The smell is nostalgic if you are into diner vibes. So courteous and filling. I could list a ton of adjectives but it’s better to come and taste what all the reviews are about.

Pancakes were a little burnt, but still edible. Good use of advertising on the coffee cups. Demonstrates longevity, and connection to the greater business community. Waitress was pleasant and efficient, no wait for coffee refill. I’d eat here again, passing through.

My wife and I stopped going out for breakfast anywhere else. Laurel Diner is leaps and bounds above all the other local diners which tend to serve “typical” diner items. Laurel has the most creative and flavor packed menu around. Their staff is friendly. The restaurant is quant and clean. The owners, Pete and Stephanie are fantastic. We are lucky to have them in our town!

11/10/23: Decided to go to Laurel Diner as the reviews made it sound like we HAD to try it. Parking was available. Our party of 3 arrived at 11:30am for breakfast. They took our name at the cash register & we were told to wait outside as there’s absolutely no extra space inside this tiny little restaurant. We waited about 25 minutes to be called. We were seated at the table by the door, so I was constantly bothered by the in/out foot traffic. It smelled like pancakes and grease in the air and the menu options were written all over the available wall space. The waitress seemed like she was overworked/ tired, and didn’t have any pleasantries left to share. We ordered our morning drinks, 2 sets of short stacks (2 pancakes each), 2 orders of scrambled eggs, and one 3-pancake stack. Once the food arrived in a timely manner, the eggs disappeared before I even thought to get a photo (we were starving.) The pancakes were good. Not fluffy… more like flapjacks. For what we got, I feel the food is overpriced and not worth the long wait. The establishment is cash-only. We’ll probably try other restaurants next time we travel through.

Cash-only diner with delicious pancakes and home fries. Parking can be a bit complicated, and chances are you will have to wait a bit for a table.
