Normally, I read reviews before trying new places but I didn’t this time… I wish I had. We have food trucks come to our town every 1st Friday of the month. We don’t go very often because it’s not really a money saver so we do it for fun every once in a while. There were about 10-15 food trucks and this Laughing Crab food truck looked pretty flashy and I figured if they can spend the extra money to make the truck so fancy, they must be making good money=good business.
Anyway, we ordered 2 crab cake sandwiches, 1 crab won ton, 1 fish and chips, 1 side of fries, 2 waters, 1 Gatorade, and 2 cans of Coke. Then there’s tax and THEN 8% surcharge for using your credit card. As mentioned previously, food trucks are not money savers these days. Fine. If the food was worth it, I would be good. Crab cake sandwich: served on a cold sesame bun. That’s it. I think it’s just visually lacking. I like some color in my food. At least toast the bun. For $14, it just seemed disappointing. It was seasoned and not bad on the fillers but I’ve had crab cakes with more meat for same amount of money. The amount of bun almost takes over the crab cake. The crab wonton was mostly dough. They used a small scooper to put the crab mixture in, about the size of a hush puppy and the dough is 6 inches in diameter. Any seasoning was in the crab mixture. The rest of the dough was just dough…very oily dough. There was a small pocket of oil in the corner that popped open while my son bit into it…rather unpleasant. And is Chinese duck sauce a normal condiment that goes with the crab wonton? But at least it gave some extra taste to the dough. I was told that the fish and chips were good. The side of fries was still in the shape of the fryer basket…and super oily. The issue is if there is too much food crammed in the fryer basket, the food in the middle doesn’t get fried properly. So our fries on the outside was crispy but in the middle was still soft.
Overall, we were not impressed and won’t be returning to that food truck. I’d rather go to our local seafood restaurant and get more seafood for our hard earned money. Oh, here’s a tip about food service: Don’t bicker in front of your customers; it’s unprofessional and sends a bad impression.

Trust the majority of reviews you see here, folks. We took the bullet so you don’t have to.

Seems to be a trend. Kid taking orders was a delight. Old cantankerous man in the back was awful. I witnessed him yelling at customers who had every right to be annoyed that the truck was disorganized and managed poorly. Like, really? Even IF their food was good that behavior is pathetic.

Their food sucks. Don’t bother. “Seafood” riding the coattails of a travel channel show.

Had the crabcake sandwich from their food trailer at Chambersburg Market days. Crabcake was over fried, small, greasy, and had a lot of filler. Would not recommend the crabcake.

Paid $65 dollars for 2 crab cakes. They also didn’t give me the saltines with the crab cake and when I told them I didn’t get them, they took so long to get them for me I just left. The crab cake was so small and not very good.

So we’re at an arts and crafts festival down here in Florida, and I see a food truck selling crab cakes and Maryland crab soup. I don’t see that too often, and I love that soup, so I stop by and get some stuff.

The truck itself looks visually appealing and the employee is nice enough. I order the number one, the Crab Cake Sandwich “Our Crab Cakes are the Best and we have the Awards to Prove It!” I also get the Maryland Crab Soup, “Made from Scratch with out Traditional Eastern Shore Recipe.”

The sandwich. It was ok. The amount of crab in the crab cake was a little disappointing considering the company is from Maryland. I’ve gotten more crab in a crab cake from St. Pete, FL for about the same amount of money. Odd. The sandwich was topping-less, but I would have been ok with that, let the crab cake shine, if it wasn’t for the ok crab cake. It wasn’t all breadcrumbs or anything, just not enough of what you wanted for the price.

The soup. It certainly tasted like the traditional recipe. I’ve had this soup made for me in my childhood by a real New Englander. So the flavor was there, spot on. But the crab, again, was lacking. I can understand lacking crab, but not from a spot that has them plastered everywhere in their marketing.

Overall, if you see this truck, stop by and consider them. If your options are truly limited at the festival or fair you’re at, and this is the only thing catching your eye, I’d say go for it. If you have a plethora of options, maybe pass it up.

More like “angry crab”. Continuing a trend in other reviews, guy taking orders was wonderful. Crab cake sandwich, crab cake slider, and two orders of fries. Unfortunately, cook/owner had wandered out of the food truck at noon on Saturday and left the truck with no full sized crab cakes prepped. On return, dude was agitated, snapping and snarling at FOH while they prepped other food.

Finally got our sandwiches and they were.. fine.

Prices for seafood all the way out in Winchester were.. fine.

Food could have been 10/10 and I still would have been disgusted by the pettiness. Prep better, take a management course, and get someone else to run your truck.

Ate at this food truck tonight at the uptown art festival. Paid $90 for 3 crabcakes and some hush puppies. Food was disgusting. They first gave us burnt crab cakes and we asked that they not burn them. Honestly probably wouldn’t have made a difference. These are NOT Maryland crab cakes. These tasted like frozen Phillips crab cakes you get from the grocery store and they threw them in some old nasty oil to fry. Hush puppies burnt too and disgusting. Really surprised they are in business still. Bad service too. The 2 men working the truck were fighting and yelling at each other. That should have been a warning….. save your money folks and DO NOT eat at this truck!!!

My new husband and I hired The Laughing Crab to cater the rehearsal dinner for our wedding this past weekend (11/19/2021), and they did not disappoint!! Tommy drove his food truck all the way up to Maryland from Florida, and he definitely brought the warmth with him! His infectious personality and delicious food thrilled our guests, who won’t soon forget him (or his cooking!) He was also sweet enough to bring us a potted flower and decorate the front of his truck for added festivity. If you’re looking for classic Maryland seafood (but with its own unique twist — I’m looking at you, Crab Stuffed Hush Puppies), look no further than The Laughing Crab!! Thanks again, Tommy & crew! You made our rehearsal dinner truly special! ♥️

It is unfortunate to ever give a 1 star review. I regret spending 45 min in line at Coast Day and $75 for a disappointing lunch. The worker was rude to the other employees and the food was laughable. Clam strips and chesapeake chips were the only item that was edible. The crab cake, crab wontons, and coconut shrimp were greasy and the flavors were off. The curly fries were unevenly cooked and super greasy too. No catsup barely any cocktail sauce, no
napkins. Overall poorly done.

Even if GF options were available, I’d be wary.
