Inspired by history, culture & culinary heritage, Late August brings wonderment to the table. Named for that time of year when the Sears catalog would entice the children of the world to feverishly circle all the items they hoped would show up on Christmas morning. Drawing influence from their childhoods and culinary journeys Chef’s Chris Williams and Sergio Hidalgo blend culture and flavor to excite the soul and create lasting experiences!

I went to Late August on a wednesday and I decided to try their tasting menu. It was $95 for 9 courses. And I would say that it was more like 2 light courses, 3 main courses, 2 dessert courses, and 2 transition slash palette cleansing courses. I also added the wine pairing four fifty five dollars. I really enjoyed this tasting menu experience and I think it’s good value for the money, especially if you compare to other “affordable” tasting menus like maximo or Jun. I even like it better than the tasting menu at march, which is significantly more expensive. I recommend that you go try it out.

Where to start? Was I expecting Chef/owner Chris Williams (Lucille’s as well) to come and introduce the Chefs Tasting Menu? Did I think a simple reservation would allow me to learn about an establishment that is more of a passion? Would I have guessed that Chef would actually talk to me and my husband, be entertaining, informative, and go beyond? No to all these.

If you have not tried Lucille’s, you have done yourself an injustice. Now there is “Late August” I don’t have the words to express the quality of food, the knowledge of the team, and the hospitality that flows there.

Visit the restaurant for a special event and even though the restaurant was packed the serves was amazing. We order tacodillas was amazing and so was the jambalaya. The Tacodillas was served hot and perfectly seasoned. The Jambalaya was a little spicy but overall balance. The oyster were a little bit brine not the clean flavor that would have paired nice with the toppings, as well the aguachilli was very light. I hope they keep the Tamarind Besos cocktail on the menu, it so case tamarind with the sour that it is known for but overall balance cocktail. I would order again and again Overall, a stunning restaurant with amazing food and great serves

Imagine if a bunch of your friends owned a restaurant and bar. That is the atmosphere of this place, elevated and cool, but comfortable and familiar. The staff is awesome…knowledgeable about their menu…great suggestions. The bartender made me this drink and later came over to ask me what I thought about it. The food is absolutely craveable. Love this place.

Kamilah, was amazing! The drink pairing was phenomenal along with Houston Restaurant Weeks menu! We really loved it and will definitely be back! Would highly recommend! And the nod from Michelin was icing on the cake! 🙂 I can see why!

From the moment I walked up to the door, to the moment I walked out was hands down one of my favorite dining experiences.

The hostess was so sweet and immediately recognized my reservation and wished me the most genuine happy birthday.

It was a solo dinner for me, but I was never left to feel alone. Danny and Tariq were incredibly attentive and very entertaining. You can tell they genuinely care about their guests and the restaurant. They knew most of the guests by name, made sure to greet and say bye to everyone. They know the menu like the back of their hand and make the best recommendations. I will absolutely be back, every chance I get.

We went to Late August when they had their valentines 3 course dinner. We had a reservation, so we did not have to wait for a table.
The atmosphere and aesthetic of the interior were thoughtful and were giving fine dining vibes.
Service was quick and friendly. Never did I have to wait for my drink to be refilled or have to track down a server.
The chef really outdid themselves with the food. I’d highly recommend the dressed oysters and basted strip loin. But the best thing, IMO, was the dessert, chocolate 4 ways. My brain sent me back to my mom making abuelita’s coco on the stove.
High praise to the chefs, and I’ll be coming back for brunch and dinner!

Ordered the Texas Caesar to carry out. Server didn’t advise about protein being extra or ask if any was desired. Paid $15 for a few pieces of lettuce, a cherry tomato cut in half, maybe two slices of avocado, and some dressing. This took 25 min to prepare. Realized there was no protein and returned. The GM shared protein was extra, to which I responded with surprise given the price. It took them another 20 min to prepare a small amount of thin pieces of chicken.

We went to celebrate someone’s birthday and it was a fun time. I give this place 5 stars all around! Our server was Conner and he was delightful. From the host who sat our party to the food presentation, knowledge for pairings, and all around fun. I highly recommend this place.

Let’s break this down. I took my fiance to Late August on March 1st. Since this date we are still talking about the memorable meal and service. From the moment we walked in we were treated wonderful from the greeter and shown to our table, which happened to be a chef’s table overlooking the kitchen where the food was prepped fresh. I cannot thank our waiter enough for his recommendations. The cocktail drinks do not disappoint with some original flavorings exclusive to Late August. Moving on to the food you had delicious appetizers such as octopus and oysters. Main courses include the best fried chicken that I’ve ever had, which is marinated before deep frying deliciousness. I’ve been to Paula Deen’s Sons restaurant in Savannah and this hands down slaps it. We can’t wait to go back and try more. It will for sure be soon!
