I think people are confusing the Store and the Taqueria. The Taqueria was good. The store was not.

I came in based on the reviews saying this was as good as the menudo in Texas. Spoiler alert it was not. I just moved up here from Texas so i think I am a good judge on this one. I have been trying to find my Sunday menudo replacement I used to have back in TX for months and still nothing in Michigan compares.

First, the ordering process is a bit clunky. I am never sure if I need to form a line to order and then get back in line in between the crates of vegetables again to pay. This seems like an easy fix. Just pay when you order and step aside for pick up.

Second, the menudo actually tasted somewhat burnt. It was overcooked to oblivion and just a mushy mess. It also seemed like it was not cleaned right and the fat was not trimmed before cooking. Hence the 3/8″ layer of grease floating on top.

Third, the menudo was a bit bland and had no actual menudo. 90% of the “meat” was pata and fat. I was never asked if I wanted pata they just put it in there. Some people like it but I dont. Most places ask if you want it. To be honest I am not sure what kind of “meat” it was. Hard to tell since it was over cooked and everything looked the same. On the left is the fat/pata that I could not eat. On the right was the actual menudo maybe?

I have given this place too many chances and the result is the same. $12 for this mush is just not worth it. I cant speak for the other items here as I have only tried the menudo. I guess for now I will just have to keep making it at home.

Hidden Gem in the Utica/Shelby Township area! If you’ve ever been to Texas, SoCal, or Northern Mexico and remember the Tortas, Tacos and Gorditas from these places then Welcome to Las Tortugas Taqueria Market! Weekdays they do a jam packed lunch cranking out sum of the best and authentic items we’ve all grown to love(carnitas, asadas, Al Pastor etc) but wait! On the weekends they bring out the big guns… Barbacoa De Chivo! Yes people BBQ’ed Goat that is outta this world! They also serve up an awesome Menudo(no not the boy band) but a Tripe Soup that is an experience one must try at least once! Sooo yea come for the wide array of Tacos, Gorditas, Burritos, heck the Tostadas but push you boundries and try something different! My personal suggestions are the Chivo Tacos, Al Pastor Tacos or the Legua Tacos(yes there’s tongue tacos here). The owners are here all the time, it’s totally a family affair. They’re are friendly and informative with a smile. If you have any questions jus ask! Btw authentic tacos DO NOT have cheese on them, they’re spiced and rich in flavour without it.

Authentic Mexican restaurant with great tacos and a weekend menu you won’t want to miss. The tortugas (sandwiches) are deliciously filling, and one taco will never be enough. The lengua meat option is rare and a must, tender and full of flavor. The menudo is a great start if you’re new to beef tripe. I look forward to trying more things on the menu, and taking home some of that awesome-smelling tamales!

Can’t beat this place. Mi pueblo in Mexican town is very similar. Catne asada tacos are incredible and i actually eat the beans and ruce. 3 different flavorable salsas that are top notch authentic and Americanized. Only thing this place is missing is good chips. Chips are terrible. If they got great chips, it would be hard not to eat here every meal.

This was my third time here. I am sad to say the food was not very good this time. I had a burrito with chicken. It was just OK. The red sauce was very sweet and I did not like that. The rice was very bland and so were the refried beans.
The prices were in line with most Mexican restaurants. Chips are not complimentary. A basket with a very small cup of salsa was $4.

Pros: tamales! Horchata. A market with traditional mexican ingredients. Cons: so busy the weaitress hardly comes back for refills or tend to us.
I’m willing to say maybe we need to try at a less bisier time since we’re here at lunch. It’s hella busy in here.

I just moved to the area. I herd some ppl talk about how good this place is. So we tried it, and WOW!!! The most authentic mexican food i have ever had in my life!!! I have tried so many places and this one top’s them all! The price is so dirt cheap for how much food you get from the dinner menu. If your in the area stop by and give this place a chance.
