Our first time checking this place out – it was great. It’s a wonderful little hidden gem. The service was great, while very small it was cozy and welcoming. The entire lobby area was clean and the bathroom, while shared (men’s and women’s together) it was spotless! I appreciated that! The food was really good. The namesake burrito was huge and very good, I pay attention to the detail, the burrito had bacon (which I did not see nor taste so I think they forgot to add it lol, that’s ok) steak and shrimp (it was deveined – Red Lobster has let us down in that respect) and peppers (pablano) and onion. It’s covered in cheese which is why I got it but it was a yellow cheese I didn’t care for that got cold quickly, I would have preferred Mexican cheese and there was NO cheese on the inside which is essential with any burrito imo. I also don’t care for the “charro” beans which are basically “pork and beans” beans (I don’t know that so it’s kind of my fault or I’d have ordered refried as well as cheese inside.) The salsa is amazing!!! We also got the fried ice cream which was very good! Overall, I highly recommend this little place. Lots of people were coming in for lunch as we were leaving (so if you plan to sit in and eat – 12-1pm might not be ideal.)

Delicious Carnitas with corn tortillas. It came with avacado slices and the purple onions both of which i like 🙂 I preferred their hotter salsa for the tortilla chips. It was hot and flavorful at the same time. That’s what im looking for not so hot i can’t taste flavor but hot enough feel something. All the staff was polite and checked on me often and brought me more corn tortillas and chips and hot salsa. I left very happy but definitely no longer hungry. I wish I could have tried dessert but cabritas was very filling so no room left :D. Oh yeah and the food arrived very quickly. I would definitely eat here again.

Our first time at this quaint mexican restaurant. We were immediately greeted upon walking in and told we could sit anywhere we would like. Server came out right away and took our beverage order and brought us chips with two types of salsa. One mild and one spicy. Both were delicious. My husband had the steak sopes dinner served with rice and beans. It came with three sopes that were fresh and homemade. I had caldo de res (beef broth soup with potatoes, carrots, cabbage, corn, etc with large chunks of beef). It came out piping hot and was a huge portion served with your choice of corn, flour, or a mix of tortillas, yellow rice, lime and two sliced of fresh avocado. I appreciate the portion because I was able to take home my leftovers so it gave me two nice size meals. The soup was hearty and super flavorful. Excellent service! Delicious, authentic mexican food. We will definitely be back.

Authentic Mexican in Merrillville! My first but not last visit to this small but mighty restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Cheese Enchiladas and they were packed with cheese and lightly dipped in homemade Chili Sauce. The refried beans and rice were full of flavor and not overly salty. I will be back to try more items and update my review.

Visited the next day and had the tortilla soup and the chicken quesadillas.

If you want Mexican — really, really good Mexican food and you’re traveling I-65 north or south time your trip to stop at Las Jacarandas just a couple miles west of the I-65 & US 30 exchange. It’s on US 30. The service was outstanding, very amiable and attentive! The food is superlative!! If I lived anywhere near it I’d be a regular! Oh, and the chips — made in-house — WOW!!!

So close to home and soo good. Not sure why I didn’t go sooner! Great flavor and authentic food. The food is fresh you can actually taste the difference from other places, that let their ingredients linger pass the point of freshness. Great servers. Nice bright decor. The prices are reasonable. The fried ice cream dessert was out of this world you can go to just to order dessert.

Small strip mall restaurant. Welcoming staff. We had a short wait because they were busy. Fast service. Food was excellent. It’s the best Mole sauce I have ever tasted and we frequent a lot of Mexican restaurants. A little our of the way for us but worth the trip!

It’s hard to find really good Tortilla soup at a Mexican restaurant. They aced it! I loved it so much I ate the whole thing. I felt like little Mikey from the commercial. The sad part is the restaurant is small and the parking is very limited. Eventually, they’ll need to move or open another location. It’s a start-up that out of the ring corner swinging. Pepe’s and the rest better watch out.
