This casa at Cedar Plaza has been here for many years. It’s family-friendly, happy, and welcoming.
When my wife and I came for dinner, almost all the tables were taken. We sat down and immediately ordered the house margarita and shared a plate of steak fajitas.
While waiting, I looked around to soak everything in.
There were two saddles nestled on the ceiling beams. The walls were adorned with paintings of cowboys and horses and dusty trails. In fact, “Las Espuelas” means “the spurs” in Spanish, a nod to Western life.
Music played in the background. I knew not one word of what the singers were singing, but I could tell by the plaintive melody that they spoke of love and life in the most emotional tones. A busser said what I was hearing was ranchera music. I learned something new today.
I spotted a toddler in a high chair saying, “Mingo! Mingo!” Pretty soon, the owner of the restaurant, named Domingo, came moseying down the aisle. A silver-haired man with broad shoulders and a stern visage, Domingo doesn’t look like the type of guy anyone would mess around with. But when he reached the toddler, Domingo bent down, smiled at the child, and made a funny noise like an airplane swooping down. The toddler roared with delight.
When our drink arrived, it was tremendous. My wife said, “Goodness gracious, this thing weighs like five pounds!” I took a few sips for the sake of experiencing the moment. I took a few more sips because it was darn good.
The steak fajitas came sizzling on a plate. The roasted onions and bell peppers were perfectly matched with the smoky loveliness of the thin cuts of beef.
After a couple of servings, I said I’d had enough. But I had a couple more afterward.
We vowed not to take home a doggy bag, and we accomplished that goal.
When it was time to leave, there was a line at the front. This place is popular.
If you want to come here, better saddle up early. Mingo will be waiting.
The vibe is relaxed yet polished. Soft lighting, clean tables, and subtle décor create a space that’s both cozy and festive. It’s the kind of setting where you can linger over a meal without feeling rushed, and the background music adds just enough energy without overpowering conversation.
The staff here are exceptional and attentive without hovering, friendly without being scripted. You get the sense they truly care about your experience. Water glasses stay full, plates arrive promptly, and every interaction feels sincere. It’s rare to find service this consistently excellent.
We ordered two combo plates that showcased the kitchen’s strengths:
#10 Combo: One chile relleno and one enchilada, served with rice and beans. The chile relleno was perfectly roasted, with a delicate crunch on the outside and a rich, cheesy center. The enchilada was generously sauced and packed with flavor.
#3 Combo: Two enchiladas with shredded beef and a beef tostada plus rice and beans. The shredded beef was tender and well-seasoned, while the ground beef enchilada had a satisfying, savory depth. The rice was fluffy, the beans creamy, and everything arrived hot and fresh.
The house margarita was a pleasant, surprise smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet. It paired beautifully with the meal and felt like a treat without being overindulgent.
Las Espuelas isn’t flashy, it’s dependable, delicious, and deeply welcoming. Whether you’re craving classic Mexican comfort food or just want to enjoy a well-made margarita in a friendly setting, this spot delivers. It’s the kind of place you return to not just for the food, but for how it makes you feel.
It’s also got a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We went on a Sunday evening and the place wasn’t too full, and we were instantly seated. Now excuse me… I’m going to be enjoying my taquitos for the next few days.
Food and service were fabulous. A great selection from the menu and the drinks are fun and have such variety.
We went Saturday night and they were busy which was great to see. Food came fast and they were very attentive to filling our water and anything else we needed.
They have inside and outside seating with lots of parking.
