L’ANTICA PIZZERIA DA MICHELE
Reviews
We ordered two pizzas. The first one was already below expectations — the crust lacked character and the overall flavour was rather flat. The second pizza was even worse. The texture and taste were simply not enjoyable, to the point that we only ate about 50% and left the rest behind. It’s rare for us to leave pizza unfinished, but this was genuinely not worth finishing.
Considering the reputation of this brand, we expected authentic, outstanding Neapolitan pizza. Instead, it felt average at best. In fact, we have had many pizzas in Ho Chi Minh City that taste significantly better in terms of crust quality, balance of toppings, and overall execution.
The ambience is pleasant and the location on Club Street is nice, but good atmosphere alone cannot compensate for disappointing food.
Based on this visit, we do not feel it lives up to the hype.
The pizza had a thin crust, was very easy to eat, and absolutely delicious. It was satisfying and filling as well. However, my absolute favorite here is the tiramisu. I usually don’t eat many sweets, but their tiramisu is so soft and light that it feels like you could drink it. It’s not overly sweet, and I could eat it endlessly. I really want many people to try it.
I will definitely come back again. Thank you
The pizza was enjoyable while hot, but once it sat for a bit, it turned quite jelak—the tomato base was thin and the cheese became clumpy and chewy.
The pasta wasn’t for us, as the sausage had a strong star anise profile, which isn’t really our thing.
The fried platter was the highlight. The chicken pops and potato croquettes were very good—we liked the croquettes so much we ordered another round (glad they let us order just those, otherwise it’d be too much food).
Finished with the tiramisu—nicely presented, decent, and generously sized, enough to share between two.
The atmosphere is warm, relaxed, and welcoming — no unnecessary fuss, just a great spot to unwind and enjoy good food.
And a lovely little bonus: if you’re lucky, you’ll be served by Paola, a very sweet and friendly waitress whose smile and attentiveness make the whole experience even nicer
Overall: amazing pizza, great vibe, lovely service. Definitely a place you’ll want to come back to.
Came here for my birthday on a Saturday (7:30 PM). Highly recommend making a reservation; the dinner service gets very busy.
The Food:
Burrata ala Puttanesca (4/5): A highlight! Perfect balance of fresh burrata/tomatoes and salty olives/anchovies. Great for sharing between two.
Diavola Pizza (3.5/5): Classic thin, light Neapolitan style (not the puffy type). The sauce wasn’t too acidic, and the pepperoni/cheese ratio was spot on. Don’t skip the chili oil!
Fritto di Mare (2/5): A bit underwhelming. Liked the zucchini and prawn, but the rest was forgettable, and the garlic mayo lacked flavor.
Tiramisu: Decent texture, but low on the alcohol soak. The server mentioned they keep it kid-friendly, which is good to know if you prefer a boozier kick!
Ambiance & Service:
The music inside is borderline loud but manageable for convo (outside seemed louder).
Service was a 4/5—special shoutout to Paola, who was so jolly and made the birthday greeting feel special!
Note for birthday peeps: They don’t offer free cake, so just a heads-up to manage expectations.
Will I go back? Yes for the love of pizza. Would love to try their margherita and maybe some white based pizzas as well.
We were a party of two. We ordered one pizza (provola y pepe), a moscato and a tiramisu. Tiramisu was standard. Moscato was smooth and amazing. The pizza was extremely large. A lot more than what we could finish. The first few bites when it was served warm were good but soon as it cooled down it got very stretchy and chewey. The cheese was great but maybe because provola is already a salty cheese, the pizza was a bit too salty for me and it was monotonous and tough to eat after a few bites.
We spent about 145$ on the food.
Service is very good. Very loud indoors, so sitting out maybe better to talk. They have coolers outside to beat the heat.
I made an online reservation for three for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and ordered the following items:
1. Capricciosa Pizza – $36
2. Insalata Di Polipo (Octopus Salad) – $38
3. Lasagna Napoletana – $34
4. Sicilian Garden Salad – $18
5. Sparkling Water (3) – $6
The total cost after tax and service fee is $158.27.
While the pizza arrived rather quickly within 10 minutes, it was a little cold. Despite this gripe, the food was generally good. Although the restaurant was packed with diners, the service was good and prompt. The wait staff cleared the plates, replaced them with clean ones, and refilled our bottled water. I had an enjoyable dining experience and would love to return here again.
Tip: If you are taking the train, alight at Telok Ayer MRT Station (Blue Downtown Line DT18). Exit the station and walk towards the underpass at ICON Link @ Club Street. Head out to the hotel and you will see the restaurant near its main entrance
Came with a big group on a Friday night and the place was PACKED! Despite being full house, the service was great and the staff were really attentive!
We tried quite a few dishes, including the Margherita pizza and one of the specials of the day — meat lover pizza with blue cheese.
We also tried the Beef Ragu Pasta, Orecchiette alla Positanese, Fritto di Mare, Wagyu Meatballs, and the Burrata Salad.
Portions were just right for sharing with a big group. Great spot for a lively dinner with friends!
The dough has good flavor, but the toppings are slightly dry. In Italy, pizzas are usually finished with a drizzle of olive oil before serving, but here you’ll need to add your own. I did enjoy their lasagna, though, and the chili oil pairs nicely with the pizza.
One downside is that the prosciutto is chopped instead of served in whole slices, which affects the presentation and texture. Plain water is charged at $2 per person, and dining time is limited to 90 minutes.
