While looking up best restaurants in Sioux Falls, Lalibela restaurant continued to pop up in my search. Never having eaten Ethiopian food before, my husband and I were intrigued and decided we would give it a try while we were in town. We were not disappointed! We ate at Lalibela on 6/9/23. The waitress was very patient and kind when we said we had never eaten this type of food before. She briefly explained how you eat with injera instead of utensils. She also was eager to answer any questions we had and to make suggestions. We ordered the meat sambusa as an appetizer which was my favorite thing. Piping hot, pastry shell was perfectly crisp, meat was flavorful, and the sauce was a wonderful accompaniment. For our entrees, my husband went with a combination platter while I had the beef tibs. Every bite was excellent. The only downside is we live 15 hours away from Sioux Falls, and we will have to try to find an Ethiopian restaurant close to home!

We like Ethiopian food in general and decided to try this place while visiting Sioux Falls. I called about a reservation on a Saturday night, but the owner said it was not necessary. Management was very friendly when we arrived. We got a two-combo vegetarian plate and a multi-combo meat plate, along with Ethiopian beer which my husband said was pretty good. Tasty food. It’s always different eating with hands for the first few minutes and then seems normal. Worth a visit!

Delicious food that’s a great value. I ordered the veggie combo takeout and the food was ready quickly and traveled well. It was well seasoned and there was plenty of injera to eat it with. The inside is beautifully decorated and makes me want to return to dine in.

Super delicious Ethiopian food. It’s very authentic and the owner is the server as well. He takes very good care of the guest and makes you feel like at home. I am returning for more. I was vegan and they accommodated my needs.

Surprised to see that there were quite a few Ethiopian restaurants during the stay in Sioux Falls a few weeks ago, we decided to give it a try. The owner was very nice to explain to us about the food on the menu, and a little about the culture. We enjoyed the food, especially tasty to eat with our own hands, we also like the decoration

A great find. The food was delicious. The appetizer Sambusa was served with an excellent spicy dipping sauce. We tried the lamb stew and the lamb tips and both were tender and spiced perfectly. Had the Ethiopian beers and they matched well with the food. Highly recommended.

I had the beef key wot and it was delicious. The menu said that it was going to be spicy but I didn’t think that it was. It was the perfect blend of spices. We went around noon on a Sunday and it wasn’t too busy. Our service was good and we were not rushed. There was a very diverse group of customers. I would eat here again and recommend.

This was a MOST pleasant surprise. The atmosphere was very clean, comfortable and welcoming, with ethnic and cultural art throughout, but the real surprise was in the cuisine! This was a delicious experience in culture, cuisine and the art of hospitality. What a pleasant and wonderful addition to Sioux Falls. I left feeling grateful in gut and grace.

Don’t expect fast service as this two person team does their best to make everything fresh and authentic. Loved the flavors and the experience. First time was not a disappointment. And Diners, Drive-in’s and Dives totally just featured them for the latest episode two days ago and we didn’t even know it.
