Delicious food. Cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Great place to Spend quality time with friends and family over dinner. Absolutely wonderful host!
We ordered veggie combo, Lalibela special kitfo, and Ethiopian coffee which was more than enough for three people. Food is delicious, not spicy, and has a great spread.

So happy to have this restaurant in the neighborhood. The food is delicious and the hospitality is genuinely warm, making for a wonderful dining experience. We ordered the Lega Tibs and the Veg Combo, both were incredibly satisfying. Noticing that we enjoy spicy food, they thoughtfully brought out mitmita powder and berbere sauce without us even having to ask, which added an extra layer of flavor and heat. Still thinking about last night’s dinner and already looking forward to our next visit!

Haile greeted me with such a warm welcome. The decor is colorful with a mix of Ethiopian table cloths and wall hangings. TV on the wall. Open long hours during the day which is great for if you’re hungry outside of traditional hours. I had a big plate of a vegan combo-lentils and mixed vegetable dishes. They serve alcohol and have a 2nd floor too. Welcoming, family like atmosphere.

I’m no expert in this cuisine so I came humbly with an open palate to try their food since their recent opening. I just wanted to support a newly opened minority business representing their roots in the area and excited to try something different from the usual repertoire.
First impression is how quiet and sleepy this whole restaurant was. Perhaps, I was just early and the closed curtains prevented anyone from outside to see the inside. Only reason I knew they were finally open was the little sign that showed “open” as from the outside, everything just looked dark.
Service is definitely very calm and familial. Everyone just helped out in their own way. Didn’t expect more since it was obvious a family had taken over this spot to share their culture and make a living out of it. Isn’t that one version of the American dream?
Food did take a while after the order was placed. But when it finally arrived, I’m glad it wasn’t just some reheat and they had actually made a stew partially cooked to order. Flavors were pleasant and not overwhelming. Portions decent and the prices reflecting portion and experience.
Definitely help welcome this family restaurant to the neighborhood! I hope they stay and succeed and spread their food, culture, and hospitality!

The food was INCREDIBLE, the staff were so nice, and the place was decorated with all kinds of beautiful artwork. The only downside was the wait was long, but it’s so worth it. Just budget the time to sit and relax. Highly recommend. We (2 people) got the Lalibela special and the veggie combo, and had leftovers.

I traveled from Florida on business and was in search for an Ethiopian experience. This restaurant has a cozy atmosphere for family and a second level for a lively adult fun. Excellent culinary moment. Great to meet the owner. Recommend it.

Today was me and my family’s first time eating Ethiopian food, and we all thought it was really good and interesting. It was nice to try something new and it was a very valuable experience. The people working there were super kind and the owner of the shop even came to us and talked to us a bit. If you’re seeing this review, I highly suggest you come here to try it at least once. My favorites were the dora wat and the green beans and cabbage.

Lalibela Ethiopian Restaurant in Watertown is truly one of the best places to experience authentic Ethiopian cuisine in the Boston area. The food is absolutely delicious, fresh, and full of rich traditional flavors that remind you of home.
The injera is perfectly prepared, and every dish—from the doro wot to the vegetarian combinations—is flavorful and beautifully presented. The portions are generous and perfect for sharing with family and friends.
What makes Lalibela even more special is the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and make you feel like part of the family from the moment you walk in.
Whether you are new to Ethiopian food or grew up enjoying it, Lalibela offers an authentic cultural and culinary experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for amazing food, great service, and a true taste of Ethiopia in the Boston area.
