I’ve been going to the Glen Arbor area for about 30 years and somehow have managed to overlook this place. I’m glad I finally found it! My family would normally get ice cream in Glen Arbor but the town has swelled over the years and is no longer as enjoyable to visit. Laker Shakes wasn’t overly busy and the shaded sitting area was a nice place to enjoy a nice treat. Prices are definitely on the expensive side but worth the splurge. I would recommend that everyone visit but I don’t want to encourage a crowd

Every time I stop by Laker Shakes I order my favorite ice cream and pick up a few groceries. So convenient to have a perfect store in the neighborhood! What a cute local store. Thanks for being there for our family!

Do not go here! I’m not one to post reviews, but I love GA and want to recommend Leelanau Roasting for shakes & if you want Moomers (like this place sells), they have it at Anderson’s grocery store for half the cost. Even Pinecone in the summer is better than here.
She repeatedly slammed the ice cream window in our face to the point where it bounced back a few times. She acted like we had wronged her from the moment we entered (and were promptly asked to go outside to order ice cream even though we wanted to buy other items). Seriously though, even if you think you can handle her miserable demeanor, the ice cream isn’t even worth it. We had luke warm milkshakes that were 90% milk, 10% ice cream.

This place is amazing! The ice cream was beyond delicious and I loved the story of how it is all locally made from the Traverse area. Jeremiah was incredibly helpful during our visit. When we visited, we were the only ones in the space. Jeremiah explained the area and special/best hikes for the Sleeping Bear Dunes area as well as the best shoes to wear for the dunes (none). As soon as we walked back to our car, 4 more pulled in. Glad we got there when we did and will be back for sure!

A little overpriced for the quality. Cookies and Cream had freezer burn and was covered in ice crystals. Chocolate shake tasted like it was made with chocolate powder.
Edit to reply: I had a scoop of ice cream which was definitely freezer burned. We ordered a chocolate shake which I assumed would have been made with the chocolate ice cream you serve but it definitely tasted bad. Can’t really return ice cream that we left with and ate.. so not sure what you mean in your reply.
The overall quality of everything we ordered was below the price you were selling it at.

rude and upsetting experience. The woman working was more than unkind. Do not bring your family to this establishment, even in the off-season. Also, the milkshakes are warm — the other reviews are correct.

Came here for ice cream with the family. I expected the more gourmet flavors to be as good as they were, but the vanilla, wow! I was not expecting it to be as delicious as it was! Best ice cream ever!
The employee working tonight was very polite amd friendly too. Would come again and highly recommend!

Very disappointed in the service we just received. My husband and I walked in to get ice cream and a bottle of wine. One of the cashiers asked us (in a nasty tone) what we were there for and that we needed to hurry up because they were closing. The cashier made us go outside to order ice cream at the outdoor window which seems ridiculous because they have many other products inside. The girl at the window seemed extremely impatient and wasn’t pleasant at all. After I paid for the ice cream, she hung her head out the window while I put my change in my purse …she was waiting to see if I was going to give her a tip. My husband and I spend at least a month out of each summer in our family cottage down the street. I would consider us regulars while we are here. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Laker Shakes and will let the rest of our family know of our recent experience.

July 2021 – family went here and everyone loved their ice cream. We went around 9pm. My daughter dropped her ice cream, and they helped fix the problem. Very nice place and we will be back while on vacation.

Laker Shakes is like the general store of old – with the twist of modern choices. Great ice cream, beer, wine, essentials for your kitchen or bbq and a lot more. The nice outdoor area is great to enjoy after a day at the lake or a long bike ride.
