I cannot say enough about the kindness and compassion shown to me by Stu, the manager at Lake of the Woods / Woods Center & Fareways. I live in Oklahoma, and my best friend of 52 years just lost her mother on November 21st. Being so far away, I felt helpless and heartbroken — I wanted to fly out immediately, but with travel issues and no pilots on staff, I was terrified I wouldn’t make it in time.
So, I did what we all know truly helps during grief: send food.
I searched for the top local eateries in Locust Grove, and Lake of the Woods immediately stood out. I called, not even knowing how close it was to my best friend’s home. Stu answered, and he was an absolute blessing during my moment of panic and sadness. I shared—with a shaky voice—what was going on. Stu listened with genuine care, asked for my number, and said, “Let me see what we have—I’ll call you right back.”
And he did. Quickly. He even texted to confirm it was really him, so it wouldn’t look like spam.
Stu put together the perfect food order: egg salad sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, pesto, and more. He chose items with such thoughtfulness that you would think he had known my best friend and her family personally.
A short while later, my best friend texted me: “What timing! We were exhausted, no energy, and suddenly there was a knock at the door. And the food is AMAZING—kiss to the chef!”
Tears of relief and gratitude on both ends of the country. Stu truly helped me bring a moment of comfort to a grieving family when I couldn’t be there myself.
Thank you, Stu, for your compassion, professionalism, and heart. You didn’t just deliver food—you delivered comfort. I hope to meet you in person one day.

You never know if your service will be good or bad. Sometimes you wait extended periods of time and sometimes you dont. The food is very good when you finally get a server to greet you. The drinks are fairly decent as well. For a gated community that is always trying to gain business you would think they would try and offer stellar service every time.

Very old looking, smells, bathrooms were disgusting, the waitstaff was rude/rushing(brought apps and meals at the same time, ran off after dropping food so could get a refill on drink or sauces I requested at time of order, didn’t check on us to see how the food was and gave us our check in the middle of eating), food wasn’t good. My $3 soda was flat, burger was awful(better at McDonald’s). The potato chips and French fries were the only decent thing.

Wonderful community for residents, plus their visting friends and family members. So much to see, like and do, activities for all. Naturally, much of the socializing takes place on the water. Many of the homes are located on the water-side of the roads, so docks and boats are plentiful.

Food is affordable and simple, but never disappoints. Have a drink at the bar, or relax in a rocking chair on the patio overlooking the practice putting green. Whether you need a snack before hitting the links, or just want a quiet place to sit and sip, this is a great local gem. There are also events such as, karaoke, trivia, tournaments, and dart nights. Great place to meet people in the community.
