Reviews
We went on Valentine’s Day and chose the four-course meal. We split the truffle fries and fried oysters to start—both were exceptional. I mean, how can you go wrong with truffle anything?
I had the roasted garlic and bell pepper soup in a tomato base. It looked thick but had a light consistency and was bursting with flavor without being too heavy. My wife had the salad with the famous honey jalapeño dressing, and it was just as good as we remembered.
For entrées, I took a chance on the 1886 lasagna (shrimp allergy limited my options), and I’m glad I did. The vodka sauce was outstanding—easily one of the best lasagnas I’ve ever had. My wife, who has over 10 years of restaurant experience, agreed. She ordered the shrimp and scallop scampi and loved that it leaned heavier on the scallops. She said it was delicious.
We finished with molten lava cake and red velvet cheesecake— not homemade, but a perfect sweet ending.
We’re excited to see this Cajun-style spot doing well and can’t wait to go back. 10/10. Worth the drive.
If you’re searching for a culinary experience that marries soulful Southern comfort with elevated Cajun flair, look no further than this standout Cajun-American restaurant—an absolute revelation that deserves serious James Beard Award consideration.
### **Juicy Pork & Flavorful Succotash**
The pork here is a masterclass in slow-cooked perfection. Each bite is impossibly tender, bursting with smoky depth and a subtle spice that lingers just long enough to make you crave the next forkful. Paired with a vibrant succotash—sweet corn, creamy lima beans, and a whisper of heat—it’s a dish that feels both rustic and refined.
### **Cajun Pasta That Redefines the Genre**
Forget everything you thought you knew about Cajun pasta. This version is bold, creamy, and unapologetically rich, with just the right kick of cayenne and paprika. The sauce clings lovingly to every noodle, and the generous chunks of blackened chicken or shrimp (your choice) are seasoned to perfection. It’s the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes and savor.
### **Kid-Friendly, Adult-Approved**
Even the kids’ menu is a triumph. The hand-breaded chicken tenders are golden, crispy, and juicy—clearly made with care, not pulled from a freezer. The fresh-cut fries are a revelation: crispy on the outside, pillowy inside, and seasoned just enough to keep little hands reaching for more.
### **Crème Brûlée Cheesecake: A Dessert Dream**
And then there’s the dessert that steals the show: the crème brûlée cheesecake. Imagine the silky elegance of flan and the rich decadence of cheesecake having a lovechild. The caramelized sugar crust cracks like a dream, revealing a custard-like interior that’s impossibly smooth and subtly sweet. It’s the kind of dessert that makes you rethink what cheesecake can be.

### **Final Thoughts**
This restaurant doesn’t just serve food—it tells a story of heritage, heart, and culinary ambition. Every dish is crafted with intention, and the flavors are bold, balanced, and unforgettable. If the James Beard Foundation is listening, this place deserves a seat at the table!
came right back. She just wiped the spoon off on her apron. I could tell by the speared butter on her fingertips and residue on the apron itself. She told us her name was “Moira” if that helps narrow that down. Someone needs to have a talk with that poor girl. I ordered my steak rare and it was burnt and tasted like a tire. I thought that the back porch tea was okay but it didn’t have any wow factors. I ordered desert for me and the Mrs. to share and it was the only part of the dining experience I enjoyed. Come to find out it wasn’t even made in house. This restaurant is a joke. If I were you I wouldn’t waste your time at this filthy slop that google calls a restaurant.
Lafayette picks up where Emmett’s left off, and has even improved in many ways. The menu is large, the portions are generous, and the flavor and quality are both excellent.
The service is great (although it often gets busy and can be a bit slow, so I would make a reservation). The new space is spacious with nice views into the square, and is well decorated with local art.
Apps: Onion Rings: OK. Dirty Fries: OK. BBQ shrimp: big problem. Shrimp was noticeably not fresh. Also, a sauced shrimp dish with the shells left on? Also shrimp were overcooked, a cardinal sin in my eyes.
Gumbo:tastes like it was done by someone who has heard about creole cooking and thinks they can try this. (I’m from the deep south and know what fresh shellfish should taste like. Also what gumbo tastes like)
Entrees: fish and chips with a huge mound of fries upon which perched a single piece of fish.Fish was pretty good
Scallops: four tiny scallops on a bed of orzo heavily seasoned with capers
Dessert: we didn’t even try.
Overall, a nice dining experience and well worth the beautiful drive from Columbia. We will return.
