Detroit’s Ladder 4 Wine Bar named North America’s most exciting …
Reviews
We got excellent recommendations from our waiter and enjoyed every single dish. Our favorites were the Sicilian crudo (very generous portions with amazing flavor! The fish was incredibly fresh and tender) and capellini with porcino ragu. What they do not specify on the menu is that the capellini is made fresh! The two of us had a wonderful dining experience and we will surely be back!
We ordered a decent amount for the two of us. The Motherloaf Sourdough and Marinated Olives were great starters, and the Snow Crab Profiteroles were creative, memorable and something I’d definitely order again. The Endives Au Jambon and Roasted Duck were both excellent, with the Duck being our true favorite of the evening. Dessert truly sealed the deal with the Basque Cheesecake and Poached Pear. The cheesecake was perfectly executed, and I truly have no notes!
That said, at this price point a restaurant steps into truly premium territory, where every detail should be truly refined. While everything was genuinely very good (and we’ll likely return), there were some small moments, a sauce here or presentation detail there, that felt just shy of exceptional. However, we definitely left feeling satisfied and happy, and curious to see how this kitchen will evolve.
I have to give the servers/bartenders a big shoutout. Though we ate dinner here, we wanted to continue our adventures. They had great recommendations for places for us to visit. Stop in and see what they have to offer.
Stepping into this spot felt like discovering the coziest, most wonderful secret in our city. This place is just adorable and the perfect spot for a date night or a lovely catch-up with a friend.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is magic. Housed in a beautifully restored old firehouse, the design is rustic-chic and totally swoon-worthy.
The Wine List: Their selection is fantastic, offering a really thoughtful mix of unique and classic pours. Our server was an absolute gem, guiding us through the options with such enthusiasm. It felt less like ordering and more like a fun little wine lesson!
️The Food: Don’t skip the snacks! Everything we nibbled on was fresh and perfectly paired with the wine. We shared a charcuterie board that was practically a work of art -the cheeses and cured meats were divine. It’s the perfect light fare to complement the drinks.
The Verdict
Ladder 4 is more than just a wine bar; it’s a whole experience. It has that rare combination of being sophisticated yet totally unpretentious. If you’re looking for a spot with genuine character, incredible wine, and an atmosphere that’s straight out of a romance movie, you absolutely have to visit.
Fr – go treat yourself – you deserve this little slice of wine-loving heaven.
The sourdough bread and butter was very good, best thing we ordered. The chicory salad and rutabaga were interesting but not remarkable and a bit bland. The steak took almost an hour, which we were warned about the wait, but were looking forward to it. As a $150 dry aged ribeye, we expected it to be really good, and the waiter had said it was served med rare. The crust was nice but the inside was blue rare. It was completely raw and inedible IMO. After such a long wait we just boxed it up to take home and finish cooking later.
The vibe of the place is cool, it’s an old Detroit firehouse. But for the cost of the food, I’d expect it to be much better.
