Service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed, and everything came out at a nice pace.
The food was full of flavor and clearly made with care. The Cajun butter lamb chops were a standout, and the fried red snapper was crisp, well seasoned, and fresh. The appetizers, sides, and Southern Peach cocktail were all solid,
Overall, a really enjoyable dining experience. We’ll definitely be back.
We missed brunch, so I ordered the creamy Cajun chicken pasta with lemon garlic cream. The pasta itself is $11, but adding chicken was an additional $10.50, which was not listed on the menu. I expected an upcharge, but that amount caught me off guard. The dish was also on the dry side, so I requested extra sauce. Bread or toast would have been a great addition.
My friend ordered the Seafood Orleans, which is fried catfish smothered in crawfish étouffée, and she said it was amazing.
The spiked Kool Aid was refreshing and strong without being overly sweet and was one of the highlights of the night. We considered sharing the La’Caj Purse drink, but it was much smaller than expected for the price, so we canceled.
Dessert was disappointing. I skipped the tres leches cake after seeing another patron’s slice that looked nothing like the menu photo. I ordered the deep fried strawberry biscuits instead. The biscuits were good but dry, and my plate looked far less appealing than the same dessert served to another table.
On a positive note, I appreciated seeing the manager comp a guest with a complimentary drink after a long wait. Accountability matters.
The staff was friendly but clearly overwhelmed. The restroom needed attention and was missing basic supplies. We even ended up signing the receipt with a hotel pen.
I have really enjoyed La’Caj in the past and hope this was just an off night. Please consider bringing back the fried cheesecake. It was one of the best desserts I have had here.
Now to me, the menu items are different but nothing out of the ordinary. I ordered the La Casita Carne Asada and Eggs, basically steak and eggs. It was a great entree and definitely a repeatable contender for when I come back. Steak was tender and flavored just right. The eggs were cooked exactly how I asked.
My friend and I did share the Fried Chicken Taquitos. They were good but I wouldn’t get them again.
Overall, this place reminds me of an ol’ reliable and casual restaurant for when you just want to grab something with some friends. Not too packed, not too loud, attentive and friendly staff, and good food.
Also I advise against the steak butter bites. My least favorite food item in a while.
