Warren took fantastic care of us as he always does. The food was exquisite. From the first bite of the focaccia to the full flavored but light lasagna. A deft touch with everything.

The only thing unusual about this place was not being greeted upon arrival. We stood at the door with another party for 15 minutes until someone finally greeted us.

Besides that, the food was great! My partner and I got the Short Rib Ravioli and the Melanzane Alla Parmigiana, and the Salted Caramel Panna Cotta for dessert.

Highly recommend.

Food was decent but not great. The food prices are high. The service was ok, but again, for the price, you just expect better. I finished a glass of wine and was never offered another glass. Oh, and don’t look at the air vent above the bar. Looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for a long time. The other issue is the place is roasting hot. It felt 10 degrees warmer inside than outside. I will likely not go back.

Went for dinner the other evening (7pm reservation) for two.

Ordered a cocktail each and wine with dinner. Cocktails were solid and wine was good.

A bit pricey for what you get overall, especially coming from NYC- Italian food is better and less expensive (surprisingly from a cost perspective).

We ordered the calamari, the lasagna bolognese and the short rib ravioli.

Calamari was good, not great. The lasagna was good, but also not great- for lasagna to justify almost $40 it needs to be excellent. Light on the meat in the bolognese sauce and nothing to write home about. The short rib ravioli was also good, not great. Overpowering mushroom flavor and content and couldn’t tell that there was short rib at all. The sauce was good, but, again, based on the cost I’d expect more of a punchy meat texture/flavor profile.

Service was friendly and timely. Restaurant overall is good from an atmosphere perspective (aside from a bit of the “live laugh love” decor), but unfortunately would not return based on cost and quality.

Excellent food and service in a rustic, quaint setting. My wife and I shared the cheese plate, lasagna, bolognese, and the scaloppine di vitello. Everything was top-notch! We didn’t have a reservation (highly recommended!), but we were able to sit at the bar. The bartender was cordial and great to chat with. At $140 for dinner and wine, it was a great value. A must-visit in Koloa!

As an Italian myself, I think this place is SO good! We had the gnocchi, catch of the day, and tiramisu and everything was 10/10. The hospitality was unmatched and the food arrived super fast. A must try!

2025 Returned to La Spezia for a wonderful dinner. Had to order the lasagne again and it was delicious, such a flavorful combination of tastes. The house salad was a good choice. I was pleased that my order for a glass of wine was completed after the service indicated it wasn’t available but the manager located a bottle in the wine storage area. The service was outstanding and the prices reasonable. A hidden gem of a restaurant.

2024 The rating is based upon other Kauai restaurants we have dined. Although we have been vacationing in Kauai for many years, this was our first time at La Spezia. We should have dined here sooner. Our lasagna and fish of the day were very good. I’m a fan of lasagna and this was excellent. We shared a house salad which was a good idea because the main dish was all I could eat. The prices are reasonable. I recommend making a reservation.

It was our last day on Kauai, and we wanted to go out for a special dinner with our group of 8 people, and to celebrate our friend’s birthday. We made reservation the beginning of the week for a Friday night at La Spezia. We arrived about 15 minutes early before our reservation to a packed house, and spent time on the patio waiting for our table, which took very little time. We were directed to our own area by the front window, to a long elevated table that would have seated 10 people, perfect for our group of 8.

We were fortunate enough to have Jimmy as our waiter for the evening. Jimmy was awesome, hands down the best service we received on the island. Jimmy was passionate about the restaurant, the menu, the food, and providing above and beyond service to our table, and others. Ask for Jimmy when making reservations, you won’t regret it.

Jimmy explained the menu to all of us, detailed the appetizers, told stories of the history of the restaurant, the detailing of the bar area, and woodwork. He helped make the dining an experience. We ordered appetizers for the table, and a couple bottle of wine. Our glasses were kept full, and the food was brought out as though we were the only group in the restaurant, but the place was packed. La Spezia was run like a fine tuned watch.

The appetizers were over the top – Piping hot, handmade fresh, and great tasting. We all ordered our dinner entrée and before you knew it, the food was served to our table of 8 all at once. I had the Fettuccine Calabrese, which was Italian Sausage, Mushrooms, fettuccine, and truffle cream, which was probably the best tasting dish I ever had! The portion was enormous, but I couldn’t stop eating it, it was awesome. Everyone in our group raved about their dishes, and everyone left satisfied, full, and satisfied.

Jimmy, knowing it was out friend’s birthday, even brought out a birthday cake for her, which then peaked others interest in deserts. Several deserts were served, and dinner was complete.

La Spezia Restaurant & Wine Bar is a hand down MUST go to on Kauai. There is a reason this place was rated #1 on the island. Professional, courteous, and friendly employees, along with outstanding food and service make this a 5 star winner! Thank you for the best dining experience!

Highly recommend La Spezia for anyone who is looking for a delicious Italian dinner! The food has great flavor and the menu has good variety. There are also plenty of vegetarian options. The eggplant parmesan and tortellini were absolutely delicious.
