Locally owned and operated by a husband-and-wife team, which we love to support. They had their house barbecue sauce on every table, and it was so good I would have gladly bought a gallon of it. My friend ordered the brisket sandwich and said it was tender and juicy, and I got the half rack of ribs — they were meaty and flavorful. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would absolutely come back. The only small thing for me was that the sweet tea could have been a bit sweeter, but that’s just personal preference.

I hate writing a negative review for La Sierra Barbecue because I’ve eaten there in person many times and it’s always been excellent. Their brisket is consistently outstanding, and their barbecue sauce is easily the best in town—possibly the best in the state.
Unfortunately, this DoorDash order was a completely different experience. The app initially showed a 28-minute delivery time, but it took 1 hour and 2 minutes. The first driver appeared to be waiting at the restaurant for about 20 minutes before the order was reassigned. The second driver picked it up and arrived quickly, but by then the damage was done—everything was cold.
I ordered the baby back ribs, and they were extremely dried out—closer to jerky than ribs. Most of it wasn’t edible. The rest of the meal, including my wife’s order, still had good flavor despite being cold, which speaks to how good their food normally is.
I don’t know whether this was a DoorDash delay, an order sitting too long before pickup, or a kitchen timing issue. If it was DoorDash, I hope La Sierra looks into how delivery orders are handled so the quality matches what they serve in the restaurant. This experience was far below the standard I’ve come to expect from them.

Me and my family of four total ate lunch here today and I must say that I was impressed.
If you are into BBQ this is a must stop place.
They even have food that our autistic six year old son loved.

Don’t let the exterior deceive you – we almost did! Inside, this place is clean, well-organized, and decorated well. Now, the BBQ ribs, brisket, and sausage combo? Absolutely fantastic! The meat was incredibly tender and fell right off the bone. The jalapeno poppers were also a hit. We noticed many customers were placing to-go orders, which speaks volumes. If you’re in Roswell, this is the place to eat. Plenty of parking too, right on the main street.

The best of the best. The pulled pork, brisket, ribs, slaw, just amazing! Clean smoke flavor that comes through with some serious kicking sauce. Service was great, very friendly and attentive. We definitely feel lucky to have found this place.

You pull up to a smaller location that has big food energy inside!! By far best BBQ I’ve had in this state, and I’ve lived in all quadrants. Not to mention the host being sweet as pie. This will be one of our go to stops when we come back! The loaded baked potato is large and in charge, chicken strips are made in house NOT FROZEN, and the pulled pork sandwich was absolutely delicious. Husband said the Coleslaw was the best he’s had in his life. Do yourself a favor and try it out!

Roswell, NM is a favorite stopping point for travelers searching for aliens, bats, migratory birds, and caves. This writer came for baseball at the New Mexico Military Institute. And, as I typically do, I searched out the best local barbecue flavors.
La Sierra Mesquite Smoked Bbq warmed this Texan’s heart. Housed in a converted drive-in diner, La Sierra’s hosts are kind and welcoming. I enjoyed the eclectic bbq-themed decor and down-home atmosphere. But the star of the show was the mesquite smoked meats.
The brisket had a nice characteristic mesquite ‘bite’ of flavor in the crust and needed no sauce. Very tender and colorful. The large (silver-dollar diameter) smoked sausages were mild but carried the smoke flavor throughout the entire profile of the meat. Perhaps the best surprise was pork. This was one of the most consistent and tender pork butts I have ever tasted.
As for sides, the potato salad was excellent (even though I am not normally a fan of celery in the dish). Mac n cheese was thick, warm, and comforting. I added a little barbecue sauce to the ranch beans and they were perfect.
Barbecue Unchained is pleased to recommend La Sierra Mesquite Smoked BBQ to anyone visiting southeastern New Mexico.

The staff were friendly. The meat was old and dry. The sides lacked flavor and it was very overpriced for what we got. I went looking for good barbecue and so far I have not found any in Southeastern New Mexico. The staff is what gives this establishment Stars. This is probably one of the first times that I have been sad about having to write a negative review. This is the third time that I’ve had this restaurant and I know that they can do better. I will most definitely try this place again soon in the hopes that today was just a bad day.

Stopped in for a solid lunch after searching for BBQ places in Roswell. The dining area was empty, so we got our order quickly. I ordered a three meat plate with lean brisket, chicken, and jalapeño sausage. For the sides, coleslaw and pinto beans. As you can see from the pictures, you can definitely tell the proteins spend a good amount of time smoking. Perfect smoke ring on the brisket and the chicken quarter fell off the bone. As good as the meat was, the sides were standouts too. The coleslaw wasn’t sweet or bitter, just right. The pinto beans were delicious and reminded me of my Abuela’s beans. Everything was great and a definite favorite from now on when craving BBQ.
