Absolutely delicious. This place is a hidden gem. We tried a little bit of everything — all amazing. The ropa vieja is a must, but we really enjoyed it all. Kind, attentive service. The owner also came out and was very kind. This place is definitely worth a stop. I’ll be back!

If you want great food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere unlike any other in the area, this is the place. It’s not fancy, and it’s definitely not order at the kiosk fast food.
The parking lot is large, and the building is set back from the road so it can be easy to drive by and not notice this building. Enter at the northernmost door, facing east.
When you enter, you’ll notice the restaurant has many seats at a large bar, as well as several booths and some tall tables in an area set aside for live music.
I highly recommend you try the tostones. They are mild and delicious. You may think you dont like green plantains, but you will love these.
Another specialty are the mojitos. I have been here twice, and each time I witnessed the bartender (and not the regular bartender, when someone ordered a mojito a different young woman came out from the kitchen. It was like calling in the expert..! ) make them from scratch with fresh ingredients, and with an engaging balance of pride and attention to detail.
On my last visit I noticed the large outdoor area. As of 2025 this is a relatively new business, but I am sure they have plans to utilize this space during warm weather.
The people here are all very kind and welcoming, this is the kind of place you will want to come back to.

Quickly becoming our favorite place to dine! It’s family-owned and they are all super nice and friendly. The food is beyond amazing. (I just had the best tacos I’ve ever eaten). They also have a nice assortment of mixed drinks as well. Try this place, and you will love it, too!

We stopped by this restaurant on our way home from Muskegon to Novi, and I’m so glad we did. I always appreciate authentic, family-run places like this. At first, I was a bit unsure when I saw the building, but as soon as we stepped inside, I knew it was going to be a great experience. The owners—a lovely husband and wife—have created such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The food was fantastic! We had the Ropa Vieja, Pollo Ripiado, chicken flautas, and burritos—everything was absolutely delicious.

I’ve been here twice so far. Both times the staff had been extremely nice. The food is delicious. Their empanadas are some of the best I have ever had. While the exterior of the building doesn’t look like much, the interior is very clean. This place is a hidden gem.

We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to try the food after reading the reviews. The interior is clean and inviting. The waiter was right over with menus and water as soon as we sat down. The menu is full of delicious options that all sounded amazing. Two in our group tried the Cuban sandwich and I chose the ropa vieja. We all shared a bean and cheese along with a chicken and cheese empanada. All the food arrived hot and was amazing. We all had a great time and will definitely be back to try the breakfast menu. The staff is some of the best that we have experienced lately. Thanks for the wonderful service and terrific time that we all enjoyed.

Wow! What a fantastic discovery. I just had my first meal from La Mulata and it was a top-notch experience from start to finish. The food was spectacular; I ordered the Ropa vieja and it was easily the best I’ve ever had. But what truly made the experience was the staff. They were so welcoming and provided service that was both professional and warm. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was so kind and made me feel like a valued guest, not just a customer. If you’re looking for genuine Cuban food and an amazing atmosphere, you have to try this place. I’ll definitely be back!

This nascent Cuban restaurant was brought to my attention while visiting 517 Coffee. The restaurant is a work in progress, but great food and great service go a long way. I can easily overlook the minor flaws with a starting business. I enjoyed the tacos quite well. I think the patio has a lot of promise. I’ll definitely be back to try other dishes. The people were so nice, and I know they are doing their best to get even better.

I always passed by and always wanted to stop but never did. Today, I’m out shopping and a friend calls me and tells me to meet them at this new Cuban place “La Mulata”. I head up there and am immediately met w a delicious dish as soon as I walk in. So tasty. Tried a few things off the menu and was definitely not disappointed. Gabriella was our server and she was very nice and pleasant. Then the owner came out and she was so nice. I can’t wait to make it back again and try some other dishes. 10/10 will definitely be back

Found this place on Google maps. At first, I wasn’t sure this place was open, but I decided to meet a friend here for breakfast. If it looks like there’s no customers, still stop. The food was delicious. The fresh, squeezed orange juice was the best I’ve ever had.
The owners came to our table genuinely, wanting to know how the food was. We got a little history of their family, which was very nice. These owners really want to do what’s best for their customers. My friend and I sat there for 4 hours visiting. Next time I’m in Lansing, from WV, I will eat here again! We highly recommend it here. Help spread the word this place is open.
