I’m not usually one to leave reviews, but this place truly deserves one.

A little backstory: this past summer, we’d play a few rounds of pickleball and then walk over for agua frescas.
Since they launched their breakfast menu in early December, my fiancé and I have quickly become regulars. We stop by a couple times a week to sit down for breakfast or grab champurrado to go before heading to work.
This morning, one of the staff members thanked us for being regulars and even offered us a piece of their merch. It was such a thoughtful and genuinely kind gesture.

As for the restaurant itself, everything is made to order and absolutely delicious! The space is always spotless, and the staff is consistently warm and welcoming. You can really tell they care about their customers and what they do.

When I walked in, I placed my order at the register, the way you would order at a fast food restaurant. There were NO PRICES listed on the menu board or elsewhere. The cashier did not speak fluent English. He wasn’t able to answer a couple of simple questions about options but he did point to the menu to try to help me find an answer. He took a call while I was placing my order. So, I waited until he was finished to continue placing my order. The restaurant does not provide paper receipts but they will email one to you if you pay by card and specifically request it.

After paying, the cashier gave me my beverage and a table tent/order number. Nothing was said about how the process went. So, I watched customers who had ordered before me. When an order was ready, an automated voice said, “Please take the order.” When your number was displayed, you were to approach the take-out counter and carry everything to your table. Since there were no trays, I had to make three trips across the restaurant. I’m still not sure what the purpose of the table tent was, as they’re typically used so that the staff can deliver orders to the correct customers.

I noticed customers going to a metal table after retrieving their orders from the counter. So, I looked it over once the line died down. It contained a beautiful assortment of salsas and other condiments. There were no cups to put the salsa and such in. A customer at the counter told me that you have to ask for them at the pick-up counter, which was close by. So, I asked for one. The employee told me that I actually had to go back to the cashier to get one. I had to wait in line again just to ask.

The presentation was fantastic. Everything looked fresh and inviting. The tomatoes appeared to be quality, vine-ripened tomatoes. They tasted delicious. My platter contained three cheese enchiladas, refried beans and Mexican-style rice. The portions were quite generous. The menu said that sour cream was part of the platter but it wasn’t given to me as part of my meal. My enchiladas were cold. The cheese inside was cold and appeared to have not even been melted at all.

My companion, who ordered a few chicken gorditas, could not stop raving about how good her meal was. Seriously, she said it at least six or seven times. Everything was absolutely delicious

I’d heard such great things of this place and we thought we’d givem a try. Food was ok, nothing bad and nothing wowing. The one thing that was odd was extremely thin tortillas. They are made from scratch so perhaps that’s the difference. Place looked to be going through a transition to a larger restaurant type vibe, that may be the reason for lack of acknowledgement to customers. idk!
I may try them another time in the future, but there are so many others that have excelled in food and customer experience. We’ll have to see.

Not your typical “US Modern” Hispanic restaurant. The way the food taste is so delicious and the presentation of the food on the plate is like food art (see pic). The ladies in the kitchen really know how to cook up authentic food. On Chicago Ave by the Old Red Front Grocery store.

To start off not a convenience store anymore just restaurant. Maybe I hit them on a bad day but was not a good experience. They open at 7 and at 7:15 they weren’t completely ready and were not clear about it before I payed for my order. It took about 20 mins for my order for a soup that should have been ready if not I should had been told about the wait time etc. Also it was menudo pretty clear unique flavor was expected got something completely different. Tasted more like seafood soup condiments, kinda maybe like a insta mix for menudo. Not really good. Not bad it was edible but not your typical menudo. Maybe a different region style that I’m not used to. All together not the best experience. Also don’t be “codos” with your lime.

Order at counter. Slightly expensive, have to pay for chips/salsa also. Cantaloupe water was delicious! Burrito supreme and enchiladas were great

SO DELICIOUS!! A hidden gem with authentic food made fresh, quick, ample portions and WORTH IT!!! Do not hesitate if they are open. I used to come get the sopes and fruit beverages weekly but being it’s not on my normal route I’ve forgotten about it. Everything is delicious here ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

La Morena is one of my favorites for lunch and early dinners, and now they are serving breakfast, too! Vegetarian? Me, too! Try a bean pupusa loaded up at the salsa bar. This morning, I had Huevo Frito—eggs, beans, cheese, corn tortillas, and a pickled pepper with coffee. Generous portions with the plates—all priced 9.99 with coffee and free refills. Welcoming. Great prices. Delicious.

(Still) LOVE this place! Today was special; they had tamales!! Authentic (chicken verde) and absolutely delicious. Chip/salsa bar was on point as ever and my tacos were wonderful. Great selection of fresh juices and plenty of options on the menu. Clean, easy, quick.
