Our kitchen features the finest of traditional Mexican cuisine prepared with family recipes from the Oaxaca and Jalisco regions of México.
Everardo Sosa-Mendoza loves to cook, and he loves to eat. The ambitious native of Oaxaca in Southern Mexico moved to America as a teen – and he’s now raising a family with his wife, Maria, in the historic City of Schenectady. With few nearby options to satisfy their yearning for a taste of home, the pair opened up La Mexicana Restaurant alongside the La Mexicana Grocery that carries ingredients from South and Central America. Maria’s family recipes offer the savory flavors of Jalisco in Central Mexico – Everardo’s tastes feature the influence of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. Enjoy!

Wonderful hole in the wall. Fajitas, pozole and tacos were delicious & gave a good quantity for the prices. My only critique is that their tortillas are quite mid and they don’t give enough of them for the fajitas.

If you want to have an authentic Mexican meal! This is the place! I love the Menudo and Pozole. They also have a great store next door to buy all your favorite Latin American snacks.

Absolutely delicious! I got three tacos- al pastor, carnitas, and chorizo, all were incredible. Margarita was sufficient. Rice and beans were ok. Overall a great place and the attached grocery store is very nice!

Authentic Mexican food with other south American influences. The atmosphere is basic, but food is delicious with good value for the portion sizes. The guacamole is very tasty. The menu is not huge, but there are some original dishes and variations. Definitely try the tacos, carnitas or Al pastor. The flaun is a delicious dessert to end the meal. Parking is tight, but there is more around back. There were many Spanish and Mexican people eating there when we were so it speaks to the authentic flavors they offer. Don’t forget to drop by the store for some different foods you can’t find elsewhere.

Food is so good!! Super affordable and big portions, too. They are also very fast and courteous with their service. Can’t wait to come back and try more things (as well as hit up the grocery store section)

Wonderful little restaurant. Service was fast and friendly. The food…the best we’ve had outside of Mexico! Very family friendly. When finished eating, check out the attached Mexican Grocery (fyi…they sell elotes in the grocery. We did not see it on the restaurant menu.) Highly recommended!
