La Mexicana Restaurant & Grocery

  4.5 – 652 reviews  $ • Mexican restaurant

Our kitchen features the finest of traditional Mexican cuisine prepared with family recipes from the Oaxaca and Jalisco regions of México. Everardo Sosa-Mendoza loves to cook, and he loves to eat. The ambitious native of Oaxaca in Southern Mexico moved to America as a teen – and he’s now raising a family with his wife, Maria, in the historic City of Schenectady. With few nearby options to satisfy their yearning for a taste of home, the pair opened up La Mexicana Restaurant alongside the La Mexicana Grocery that carries ingredients from South and Central America. Maria’s family recipes offer the savory flavors of Jalisco in Central Mexico – Everardo’s tastes feature the influence of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. Enjoy!

Authentic delicious Mexican restaurant with grocery store next door. We had the chicken tacos served with fresh cilantro, radishes and lime juice. We also shared a fresh guava juice. Gluten free options as the tortillas were corn.

Authentic Mexican food with other south American influences. The atmosphere is basic, but food is delicious with good value for the portion sizes. The guacamole is very tasty. The menu is not huge, but there are some original dishes and variations. Definitely try the tacos, carnitas or Al pastor. The flaun is a delicious dessert to end the meal. Parking is tight, but there is more around back. There were many Spanish and Mexican people eating there when we were so it speaks to thr native flavors they offer. Don’t forget to drop by the store for some different foods you can’t find elsewhere.

I love this place because it’s a restaurant, a bar, and a grocery store! The grocery is organized and you can get lots of items. The restaurant & bar has a vibrant atmosphere due to the colors everywhere. The food is great too!

Wonderful little restaurant. Service was fast and friendly. The food…the best we’ve had outside of Mexico! Very family friendly. When finished eating, check out the attached Mexican Grocery (fyi…they sell elotes in the grocery. We did not see it on the restaurant menu.) Highly recommended!

Honestly I’m everyone has been nice to me except the lady who’s apparently the “owner” which I hope she ain’t cuz she was rude I came in and the girl that was up front told I’ll go get the owner so she could help you out with what I was asking for and she came out didn’t even say “how are you” she just said what do you want? Like I’m sorry but who says that? My mom owns a deli and the first thing she told me was “keep the customers happy” ik just really upset cuz I like that store but that lady was extremely rude. Imagine you’re having a bad day and you go in there and they don’t give you good customer service how would you feel thru the whole day? From what I’ve learned a “hello how are you?” Could put a smile and change someone’s whole day!! Sorry I’m not going back to that place….
