We wanted authentic, and La Mexicana delivers. The atmosphere was clean and the food was incredible. The owner is really friendly and kind, as are the employees. We loved eating here as a family. They were super accommodating to us and our children. Even though they were overtired after a park and crabby. We visited the market after eating and purchased several items.

Me and my boyfriend really like this place because the food is really good, but more than 80% of our visits something isn’t the way we ordered it (putting cheese in when asked not to, giving the wrong sauce in food although given option to choose, forgetting items etc.). We decided after a few months of not ordering here that we were really craving the Chilaquiles and tamales. As you can see in the picture below the chicken used for the tamales is old to the point it is a different color. Not only can you see that it’s old but eating this plate you can taste the sourness of expired chicken. I think this last experience has definitely lost my trust in the food here…

Steak taco dinner was great! Limited menu as far as drinks (no margaritas here) but overall a nice lunch stop. The only restroom available is on the other side of the market area away from the restaurant, which isn’t a big deal just an observation. Great pricing and very kind staff

Great authentic food, so delicious. The beef in my carne asada was sliced perfectly and was very tasty and tender.
Afterwards we shopped in the mini-mart and found many options not found in a standard grocery store.
I especially enjoyed the manzanita sol apple soda, which you can’t find just anywhere. I will go back to the mini-mart for some of the more authentic Mexican options you just don’t see regularly.
The manager also treated us to a piece of Mexican candy that I wish I had photographed. He gave us a piece of sweet potato flavored candy, yum! It’s a lot of sugar, thinking only sugar which explains why it must be sold in just chunk pieces.
If you’re looking for an authentic Mexican grocer and bite to eat when you’re in Fon du Lac, make sure to stop at La Mexicana.

This place is family owned!! Their food is so good!! they do take care of their customers!! The daughter and son are extremely hard workers!! I would always recommend to other people to come here, and they have a little store that is connected they have everything that you’ll need ! They even have BIG RED soda, which is a southern drink from TX!!..This place is never a disappointment!!
