Disappointed in the food. Roughly have the tasting menu was delicious and well done. However, the other half was in need of improvement. Specifically the steak dish. The steak was dry and flavorless. The service was top notch, the drinks were great, the view was fantastic. For roughly $500 a person it was hard to justify the cost. Sadly we enjoyed our meal at Roy’s the night before more than La Mer.

Best fine dining in Honolulu…and all of Hawaii. We got the full 8 course meal and it was worth it, it was such a unique experience that I did not feel like I could get anywhere else. Dishes were thoughtful unique and well crafted. Delicious and I loved the wine choices. The cocktail was so smooth and flavorful. I will credit them for top notch service too

PLEASE read their attire policy so that you aren’t turned down

A somewhat beautiful experience. I have been in the gastronomy industry for 22 years. I have never been told that I could not partake in the tasting menu because my wife and daughters were not ordering the tasting menu as well. What are we trying to pull here? No fault to the waiter(s) who was(were) nothing short of amicable and accommodating. However, I just felt that my family was being pressured into ordering the more expensive menu. I am fully aware of the workings of a kitchen brigade and it makes it easier for everyone to order a tasting menu so that there isn’t that awkward waiting on the one person or people that did want it. I mean, it was my 40th birthday, guys. It was all I wanted. I will not be returning. Your servers saved the experience. God Bless you all.

We came here for a special engagement celebration, and the whole evening felt beautifully thoughtful. Gen, our server, guided us through each dish with such care and explained the chef’s vision like she was letting us in on a secret. The duck breast was rich (mine was a bit on the firm side), and the fish with its crackling, hot-oil-kissed skin was melt-in-your-mouth unforgettable. Even the simple things , like the seaweed-infused tableside bread as it felt unique and magical. It was such a memorable meal, start to finish.

A travesty Michelin still doesn’t inspect in Hawai’i; this is a deserving restaurant. AAA five diamond and Forbes don’t do it justice. It is a primarily a prix fixe restaurant, but everything is available à la carte. The setting upstairs, on the beach, in a plantation style dining room with Hawaiian music wafting up through the veranda windows from the luau below. The full service is impeccable. The food is innovative, full of tastes and textures, done to perfection. There is a full bar, and excellent wine list.

The Halekulani is our favorite hotel on Waikiki Beach and we have been wanting to dine at La Mer for many years. I wish we did not wait so long. Wow, what an amazing journey that Mark and the chef took us on! We tried the Menu Degustation with wine pairings and were blown away! The setting next to the ocean paired with the beautiful Hawaiian music from House Without a Key also made for a wonderful experience. Mark and everyone there was very kind, welcoming and made our celebration memorable on our last night (and a great way to culminate two awesome weeks)! We definitely want to dine again and while it is a perfect special occasion place, we want to relive the experience the next time we are in town.

We spent our 21st anniversary here. Super friendly staffs, amazing atmosphere, and artisan dish were all amazing. Each presentation was art in its own form. Soothing sound of waves breaking, beach view with the sunset, scent of fresh food, textures from ultra smooth to crispness, sweet, salty, tangy… all our senses were satisfied. Our seat wasn’t directly on the window due to late reservation, but staff member noticed open seat and changed our seat for dessert. Here is extra ⭐️ on top of five Google stars!

I had high expectations for La Mer given its reputation and the beautiful setting, but unfortunately, my experience fell far short—both in terms of food and service.

The meal began with a rich and heavy amuse-bouche that felt more like a full appetizer than something to whet the appetite. The banana chip dish was visually creative, but the flavor was oddly off. Many of the courses that followed looked elegant but failed to harmonize in taste—the ingredients felt mismatched, and the combinations didn’t enhance each other. The lobster tasted quite ordinary, and the beef lacked the tenderness and depth of flavor you’d expect at this level.

Dessert was one of the few highlights of the evening, but by then, the overall experience had already been underwhelming. The cheese course didn’t suit my palate, which is a matter of personal taste, but the rest of the dishes didn’t meet objective expectations for fine dining.

Service was disappointing. A piece of ginger for a cocktail was accidentally dropped on the table, and instead of replacing it, the server placed it directly into my glass. Another garnish was given to the wrong guest and later retrieved and moved to the correct glass over ten minutes later. In a restaurant of this caliber, this kind of handling is simply unacceptable, both for hygiene and hospitality.

To make things worse, the total bill for four people—with no wine pairing or additional alcohol beyond a few cocktails—came out to over $1,600. Given the average quality of the food and lapses in service, the experience did not justify the price.

La Mer may offer a romantic atmosphere and elegant plating, but the execution fell short in nearly every other aspect. I truly wanted to enjoy it, but I left feeling disappointed.

La Mer was a truly special experience. The service was impeccable and the ambiance was elegant yet relaxed. We had a beautiful view overlooking the ocean — you could even see the waves breaking at Three’s surf spot. There was a hula performance downstairs during dinner, which made the whole evening feel magical. We left feeling full, happy, and very well taken care of. An unforgettable night.
