The Daube Niçoise was incredibly tender and rich, and the Petits Farcis were seasoned perfectly. Paired with a great glass of wine, it was easily the best meal of our trip.
As for the service? It was “typically French”—a bit brusque and not exactly warm, but it almost added to the local authenticity!
Great quality food and very good value for money.
Service-wise, I expected a bit more from a restaurant of this level. The waiter dropped the corkscrew several times while opening the wine and even accidentally bumped into my wife. Overall, it was not a terrible experience, but definitely below expectations.
On top of this, when the bill arrived, we checked and saw that an additional surcharge of 7 Euros was added for a bottle of water, that we neither asked for nor agreed to pay for if it was ever offered. Looking around at all the other tables (all locals…), they all had unmarked bottles of tap water that we didn’t pay attention to was different from our own. We had a lengthy back and forth with the waiter, who after confrontation was able to confirm that the question to decide the type of water we would like to enjoy during the meal was “Still or sparkling?”.
She mentioned that she asked that same question to the other patrons as well, who supposedly gave her a secret option C, being TAP water. We were punished for not knowing the secret third option that they have at this restaurant, by a 7 euro charge for water. Mind you, we have visited about 8 other restaurants since coming to Nice, and after asking for STILL water at each location recieved the very same tap water that everyone else drinks (without any surcharge).
If you are a foreigner, the service (and possibly bill) will be unfair and unpleasantly surprising.
The vibes of the restaurant was great, waiters were ok but unfortunate to say that the food was terrible. The truffle pasta tasted like an entire plate of salt – no taste of truffle at all; just salty. Was hoping that the waiters would come in to check on us with regards to the food but they didn’t check in at all even during payment.
If you feel like you have lots of cash to spare, here’s £30 for a plate of salt.
