It would appear, without knowing the details of what is going on in their kitchen, that they are either not busy enough to make fresh food on the late side, or cutting corners for some other reason.
Bread quality has been declining and this time they sent a croissant which is unusual, and I am assuming they are trying to use leftovers rather than make something fresh. Quality of pasta dish was terrible too. I will not order again from this location and this is enough to make me reconsider going to any La Madeleine location in the future. Might be location specific but how can I know that for sure? Gradual decline and I decided to try it one more time, but today was worst experience amongst several bad ones in the past several months.
I don’t mind paying a premium for delivery and good quality food but I am growing weary of experiences like this. Spent close to $60 for dinner for two and I could have bought a frozen dish from the grocery store for $20 or less and it would have been better.
The main dishes are excellent, truly ”French”, and the little extras like the tomato soup, the potato galette, or the chicken salad sandwich on croissant are authentic Parisian in appearances and taste, alike.
A good place to spend with friends over coffee and a piece of cake to share, and chatting, laughing, and enjoying time that is so precious to all of us.
Let’s not forget some freshly baked bread to take home for breakfast the next morning. Because the only thing better than one afternoon at ”La Madeleine”, is another French meal the next day.
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been there, so I don’t know when all these changes happened.
Food was terrible. Lettuce in the salad was old, and the strawberry romanoff was unrecognizable. I convinced my friend to try it, and it was nothing like it used to be. We both took one bite and threw the rest away. It’s so bright now, and it no longer has the french cafe ambiance. Everyone now orders at what used the be the coffee/dessert register, so there is no room for the long line. The menu has also been reduced. I’m so sad that this is no longer the La Madeleine we all knew and loved.
When ordering, the cashier was spaces out, although she’s worked here for a while; when we asked for detail on sandwich she had no clue.
Food is so-so, and it took 30 mintues for the food to come out. I had the waffle, received very little syrup, basically ate the waffles dry, the butter was cold on top.
The chips with the sandwich were very salty.
The espresso came in a huge cup, 3 gulps at the bottom of the cup….
The drinks came after the food & we had to ask for the 2nd one, bc they forgot it.
When they brought the plate, it was thrown on the table.
We’ve been here many many years, no longer a favourite, food is bad, decor is terrible, no French vibes, some ‘cafe’ with no personality. The ‘special drinks’ were also silly: club soda with flavoured syrup.
We will nit be back.
I come from UTD 3-4 times a week and this place is great
Pros:
– clean restaurant interior
– real plates and silverware
– fast dining experience
– fresh ingredients
– consistent flavors every time
– hot soup, cold salad
Cons:
– short staffed and can be a long wait to order
