For me? Maybe I went at a fantastic time but it was quick serve style eating and the quality was fantastic. Bunch of different guisado and it definitely gives the vibe that I gotta hit the taco lady and bounce to work Real fast. It’s under constructions so whenever I post this hopefully they’ll have it done soon.
Enjoy some photos that I took of the spot.
You’ll see the full menu.

Honestly, the tacos (guisado) are good, but the fact is the customer service is terrible. You get treated like you’re a burden to them, and even unwelcome. I would eat there more often but I don’t because the servers have terrible attitudes. They need some customer service training or get new people with actual food service skills to manage the restaurant. I recommend going to Cardenas which is a block away instead.

First time trying this place out and service was horrible, the employees had such a bad attitude. There were flies all over the place which made it uncomfortable to eat there. The burrito had very little papas. The chilaquiles were very dry half of the tortilla chips didn’t have any sauce, and the portion was small for the price.

Upon arriving at this small Mexican eatery, I was surprised to learn that La Lonchera is not a lonchera at all, but a purveyor of guisados (home-style Mexican stews) in a free-standing building. La Lonchera’s food is heavy and hearty, and rather than benefiting from the subtle touch of a professional chef, it is infused with the love of an excellent amateur cook (I suspect a grandma) who has thankfully chosen to go pro.
The “Chicharrón en Salsa Verde Taco” features a scrumptious rift on the classic pig-skin guisado. The “melt-in-your-mouth” chicharrón is accompanied by chewy morsels of cutelo (chopped pork) in a rustic sauce pervaded by garlic, chiles, and magic. Refried beans are smeared on a beautiful flour tortilla before the stew is deposited on top. The flour tortilla is most certainly made with lard, and has a thick, tear-resistant texture. This taco weighs more than a brick.
Next I ordered the “Chorizo con Papas Taco,” which was a fine taco. The well-seasoned starchy mashed potatoes were splendid enough, even if I wanted more chorizo. Again, the flour tortilla would make this a good taco regardless of what is stuffed in it. This didn’t change my religion like the chicharrón taco, but I would order again once I ran through the rest of the menu.
This being one of the better places I’ve found for tacos in Calexico, I was surprised by some of the negative feedback I’ve received about it from locals. The food at La Lonchera is flavorful and far from ordinary, and I’d be excited to find a place like this in my current hometown of San Diego, nevermind out here in Imperial Valley where there are considerably fewer options.

I’ve driven from out of town and the door is locked- they frequently close unannounced and don’t follow their own hours of operation. Food is not that great, if you’re lucky they’re open. Salsa cart was very dirty last time I visited. Ladies working there are rude and don’t seem to care about customers. The owner definitely doesn’t when the hours change without notice, gas is expensive to give this place a chance and them not be open.

Chile colorado is very good, but employees don’t wear gloves when making tacos. Employee scratched her hair and nose and didn’t wash her hand. Plus she had acrylic hands, when definitely is a must when preparing tacos. One less customer for this place, plus employees are not too kind to customers.

Sometimes its packed and the food is rushed and it doesn’t come out as good as it is when you show up early but prices are good and overall very tasty
Update: they only sell two things tacos and tortas but they’re too often out of tortas. And you could say they run out cause they’re so good that would be cool but I’ve been here when they open and they still don’t have tortas. Needless to say they are still worth a visit but for the inconvenience and for the price increase I have to knock off one star but I still like this place a lot.
