We travelled down to Winchester for the Christmas market and ended up having dinner at La Gastronomia – Sergio Cook For You, and it absolutely did not disappoint.
My wife and I opted for the 5-course menu, and from the very start Sergio took the time to talk us through each dish. He even adjusted the menu slightly for my wife, who is pescetarian and — believe it or not — doesn’t like pasta. Nothing felt like a compromise; every course was thoughtful and beautifully balanced.
The whole experience felt like being on holiday in Sicily. The flavours, the atmosphere, and Sergio’s passion for what he does truly come through. You can tell this is someone who cooks with genuine love and care.
An unforgettable meal and an experience we’ll definitely be coming back for. Highly recommended.

We went here to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we may have found our favorite spot in Winchester. I’ve almost given up on finding an Italian restaurant that serves authentic dishes and Sergio did not disappoint.
Our experience was so lovely, it was weirdly a quiet a day, and it felt like being invited to your Italian friend’s home. Entering the restaurant felt like being transported to Sicily, very unassuming, traditional, and somewhat homey. Sergio explained to us the menu and continued to chat with us whilst he prepared our meals. Kids under 7 are free, which is nice.
We went for the option where he prepares a 5 course dish for us and it was just incredible. He talked to our table about our preferences and then he curates a meal for us with our preferences in mind using whatever freshest ingredients he has. The pasta dishes were so plentiful and we were able to take them home. Each meal had a story. Sergio takes pride on using fresh ingredients and that was well reflected on how our food tasted. It was phenomenal.
I will definitely be returning, and it will feel like another visit to a friend. He did say that depending on what ingredients he has available, he may be able to take requests.

I had a truffle ravioli and my partner had tortellini in a vegetable broth, both were absolutely delicious. I had pistachio ice cream with a biscuit and my partner had pistachio ice cream with raspberry meringue. It was such good ice cream. Lovely atmosphere and service. Definitely want to come back and try the tasting menu next time!

There is a reason for all of the amazing reviews. Sergio is the warmest, friendliest man; the food is insane (that pasta alla norma was off the scale), and even our dog was welcomed with open arms and got his own platter of tasty chicken. Vegetarians so generously catered for. We will be back and we will also be ordering online!

Wow! What a fabulous meal!! This is a place to go to experience, not just eat, excellent Italian food. Sergio, the owner and chef, spent time finding out what we would like and then cooked us a 5 course taster menu – just for us. Every course was delicious and Sergio and his team were attentive throughout. Very good value for a taster meal with drinks chosen and paid separately which I found to be much more flexible and pleasant, especially as one of us was driving. The decor is cosy and homely and the restaurant is split across two smallish rooms adding to the friendly atmosphere. Make sure you go with time to savour the experience!
