Chips, salsa, and our first round of drinks came quick. I got the skinny margarita since I didn’t want sweet and sour in mine and it was good. Not amazing, but good. We ordered our mains when our drinks arrived. Food came quick.
I got chile Colorado enchiladas with the grandma sauce on top. It was good and hit the spot that night. The grandma sauce is mild and it went really well with the chile Colorado. Other folks got the mole which they really enjoyed. It is a deep rich mole. Next time we go I’ll get that.
I had to dock some stars because our service that night was not very good. Maybe it was because it was Valentine’s Day. It seemed like they were down a server or something. Initial margaritas came quick but we never got the chance to order another round. We were never really checked up on for more drinks.
Overall the food was good but the service was lacking. I enjoyed our meal on Valentines Day and I want to try this spot again so I’ll definitely return and I hope to give this some more stars.
It’s nice that it’s not on Castro street. It makes the place feel calmer and more like having dinner at someone’s home.
….To tell the truth, I was a bit thrown back. La Fiesta, the spot just down the road that I’ve been going to for years IS that experience. I just didn’t realize it until I was in the heart of Mexico
Great drinks and tons of Margarita variations. I like the Yucatán
I like a lot of the Pollo variations but I usually get Pollo Rajas or the chicken Enchiladas. On the enchiladas I typically ask for them “divorciados” with the Mole sauce and the Grandma’s special sauce or sometimes the Red. I get them “Tampiqueño” (with Steak added) sometimes too. I like to branch out and try new things but the grandmas sauce is just so good, so divorciados allows me to test new things while still getting my fix.
My dad likes the Chile Colorado.
First time there. There was 5 of us… Salsa was super hot! Chips were too too hard. Originally, I ordered a Hard Taco and quesadilla combo plate. My quesadilla was not cooked thru and my crispy taco fell apart at first bite. That was so Disappointing. They offered to make me something else and suggested “Grandmas enchiladas.” It came just as everyone else was done with their food.
My mom, got Flautas. Chicken was white meat but dry, very dry and bland. My sister and her husband got chile verde. It was good to them. My nephew got quesadilla plate. The quesadilla was smothered in quacamole and he is allergic. They made it over. His plate was quickly fixed with a new quesadilla.
Back to my plate… it was ok. The grandma sauce was tasty. The chicken was breast but also dry with not much flavor and overall plate was not warm enough.
Was disappointed to not get a discount even though waiter had said he took off the price of my plate, but that was just the first plate that I DID NOT Eat.
Overall… gave 3 stars since waiter was nice and helpful. Also, the woman (maybe boss / owner) was fast to help us all be happy. Also the water guy gave us water and soda refills.
